BACK! So, lets get started.... PONY RELIGION!

It would probably rest on some kind of beliefs to the origins or Celestia and Luna. Whatever happened there, is what they would believe, because Celestia and Luna are their rulers and have been their rulers for centuries.

They had a funerary ceremony with Mr. Waddle wearing a clerical collar while officiating.  This leads me to believe that they do have religion of some sort, or at least some pony that serves the role that a priest would.  This was during Hearts and Hooves Day during the song "The Perfect Stallion."

I don't see how you can speculate on this. The human world and the pony world are not compatible. If you mean make a religion up, then this should be in Sugarcube Corner, not the discussion section. Just sayin

Well thank you for stating your opinion to the topic in a humane manner and i am glad you where honest. Thank you.

Thankfully, except for a few instances where Celestia's name may have been invoked instead of some deity of choice, pony society seems to be devoid of anything that could truly be considered a religious practice.

Probably just as well, too, as I would really not like to see some instances of our religious history repeated in Equestria.

All ponies are atheist.  They said so in that one episode...  That aired only in my mind.  Though I've honestly no cause to think otherwise.

Orrrrr...

The ponies (specifically the Mane Six) practice a religion called "Pinkie Sense-ism."  It is not directly associated with the "Pinkie Swear."  Pinkie Sense-ism is a religion that concentrates on predicting and avoiding certain hazards such as falling objects and suddenly opened doors.  At its center is the prophet and founder of Pinkie Sense-ism: Pinkamena Diane Pie.

Hahaha oh what

I can't really see ponies having any religion at all. If they do have some, they are being very, very casual about it. As long as people aren't branding each ponies with human religion only based on the generalization of that particular religion, I don't mind

Well, this is kind of a touchy topic on any forum, but I googled the definition of "religion" and one definition in particular seemed to catch my eye. "the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods." based off of that definition alone we can defiantly say that both Luna and Celestia have many more abilities than any pony of any race, after all they can raise and lower the sun which of course most ponies could only dream of, furthermore we have also heard the ponies use terms such as "sweet Celestia" instead of "sweet Jesus" which is intended as an obvious pun, and can also mean that the ponies do in fact view the two sisters as a sort of gods, which if you think about it are, them two alone have the power to lower and raise the sun, by that feat alone we can safely say that that would be considered a super humane (or in this case pony) ability. Also we do know that the ponies of Equestria do worship and even fear the two princesses (fear created by their own ignorance of course), and most generally every time the sisters go anywhere they have ponies bowing before their "greatness", now don't get me wrong that is also just customary tradition to bow before royalty, but in this case could also mean a bit more as well, as I keep saying them two are in control of night and day so one of my theory's regarding "bowing" is that it could also be viewed as a form of thanks as well.

So, to sum up what I have just stated, do I think that their is an actual religion in Equestria, well, yes and no, yes the ponies do in fact view the two sisters as mighty and even "holly" to an extent, but on the other hand you have got to also remember that this is a kids show and mixing religion into the whole ordeal would just lead to a lot of angry parents and much unneeded controversy. So, by the definition above I would say yes! The ponies do in fact have a sort of "Celestial" religion, but in reality no, the ponies to their own knowledge do not view Celestia and Luna as any thing other than royalty.

Your reasoning still makes no sense to me. Let me break it down to you... if you thought for a minute that having no religion equals a perfect world you are incorrect. I am refraining from heavier characterizations. You are simply and 100% incorrect. If you are of the people that share the Futurama thought that 1000 years without religion would advance us 1000 years further you are also incorrect.

The Lord and Savior Star Pony will bring the pure hearted pony to a planet called "Gutenheimsprechen"

There they can do all kinds of fun stuff like, jump on skateboards and gravity jump to the highest tower and fly while some music that feels like freedom, (Plays in the background).

"The one who is not pure hearted" will be giving a trial again and again until he/she can do it "To achieve pure heartedness". Which is given each year in "Rokschneider". Meanwhile they can eat and sleep as much as they want, and study stuff to prepare themself for the trial.

im sorry for the misunderstanding. I didnt mean to say that no god=perfect world.

i was just saying; they have no god, no religion... and they live in a perfect world (as in where most people/ponies are very nice)

Ive never watched futurama :/ and im not looking for an arguement. But if you want a friendly debate, then i can PM u and give u all my thoughts regarding this subject.

I take it that you are one of those people who need religion to live? It's a bit sad, if you ask me.

I think what Hamza is trying to say here that while the MLP universe doesn't have a set religion, it doesn't need one, because most of the time their world is at peace.

Why do you think religion is bad? I agree you don't need religion but what about other religions besides Christianity. What about Taoism where there is no god per say but more of a life philosophy?
