With the announcement that Windows 7 won't support DX12, I'm kind of hoping 2 things about Windows 10:

1. That it won't suck

2. That I won't have to reformat my SSD to install the damn thing

Windows 8.1 isn't bad, it doesn't boot to the start menu anymore and you use a button to open it instead of that god-awful "mouse over the corner' thing.

Based on my impressions of the technical preview it's 8.1 with a start menu (with the addition of some small live tiles) and fancier window drawing effects.

It'll be free for 8 users and only $30 for 7 users.

For anyone wondering what we mean by building be cheaper, here's a pre-built PC that's actually a little bit more expensive but far slower than the one I built

http://www.amazon.com/CybertronPC-Borg-DS9-GMBGDS934GN-Desktop-Green/dp/B00NC07BZC/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1416514781&sr=1-11&keywords=gaming+pc

It's specs($700)

FX-6300(3.5GHz, Six-Core)

GTX 730(1GB)

8GB RAM

1TB HDD

DVD Writer

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Shoboni/saved/pK2zK8

Mine(about $630)

FX-8320(3.5GHz, Eight Core)

GTX 750ti FTW(2GB)

8GB of RAM

1TB HDD

Blu-Ray Writer

So yeah, always build when you can because you get far better specs for the money.

Someone mind recommending me a good, inexpensive paira speakers? It's for when I have friends over, so they can hear what on's my PC too.

Cheap Ipod/MP3 player speakers that go in the headphone jack?

Can you try running something like CrystalDiskInfo and inspect the drive's SMART status? From what you describe it sounds like a possibly bad SSD, though I've had bad cables cause problems before as well.

It's also making a high-pitched buzzing sound.... and I'm almost certain that isn't normal for a SSD.

Here's the readout. Not sure what any of that means, but if I really need to test and see if it's the SSD, I could try putting it in my roommate's computer and see if it still does this.

I've also tried updating the drivers for my SATA controller. Still no luck.

If I'm reading the hex right, you're getting a ton of CRC errors. Try replacing the cable to the drive and see if that helps.

I didn't think it would be the SATA cable, because I had all these cables working before. It's the same cable that was connected to my last SSD. That said, I removed the SATA cable from my DVD drive and moved it to the drive. Haven't had any crashes since.

That attribute refers to errors between the host and flash controllers. It usually means the cable and it's cheap enough that it's the first thing that goes.

That said, lots of cheap cables out there that might not necessarily meet spec. Optical drives are a lot less demanding than a top shelf SSD.

Glad to hear it isn't crashing anymore.

Now that I think about it, I may have caused the problem myself. When I was re-routing the cables through the back of my case, the one that was causing the problem had been stretched a little bit. I didn't think it caused any damage, because I do that kind of thing with other cables all the time, and it was only for a few seconds. It wasn't in tension when it was connected to the SSD, but when I inspected the cable I remembered that it was the one that I was trying to stretch.

So yeah, I've had my system up for an hour and a half with my drive downloading data and no crashes since. That was probably it. It means I need to buy a new SATA cable, but damn, that's a relief. That's cheaper than mailing the SSD back to the RMA warehouse.

Hooray!

Buy a bunch in all different colors, replace them all.

Good call on dumping it, though. Even if it works fine with another drive, don't want to risk swapping it back in in the future and dealing with this mess again. Not over 57 cents.

I found a thing, a really expensive thing:

http://www.amazon.com/Exclusive-Diamond-Flower-RF-Mouse/dp/B0093605PM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1416535715&sr=1-1&keywords=gaming+pc

What does everyone think of this build I have planned out?

No dedicated GPU, or did you forget it?

APUs don't necessarily need a dedicated GPU.

Don't APUs kinda suck for gaming?

A10-7850K is actually pretty good. I'd highly recommend it to someone looking to build on a tight budget but doesn't have the money to blow on even a $150 GPU. 2133MHz RAM is probably the sweet spot for pretty good performance with an APU, too.

I've only used Intel HD-Graphics on a Pentium, so I could speak much for AMD APUS XD.

I'm probably gonna build a smaller PC with an APU in the future, but by then it'll probably be much better than the A10-7850K; the built-in GPU on that is about in between the R7 250 and R7 260, so it's the honorary R7 255. Or I could go for an Athlon.
