Just ran through some of the first missions. Game looks great and runs a decent clip on the HIGH preset. NVIDIA preset turns it into a slideshow.

That said, the game still looks really good even on LOW. The lower resolution textures aren't really obvious and unless you're right up next to an animal, you probably won't miss out on the fur either.

Try playing around with your settings a bit. MSAA uses up too much resources and causes my system to crash, but SMAA is fine. Enhanced (or NVIDIA) Godrays kill my frame rate, but volumetric fog is fine. SSAO is better than it was in FC3, but HBAO+ is the best option and uses only a little more system resources. Vsync is pointless, max GPU rendered frames should be set to 1, and a few other things that I forget. Some other options to editable only in the gamerprofile file may help, but I haven't noticed significant improvements from that.

The fur uses up hardly anything, and it looks amazing. The first time I saw an animal up close, I almost shat my pants.

Yeah, will probably do that a little later. Just wanted to get into the game. My usual max everything and drop down a few settings one lower didn't yield much of an improvement in framerate. Agree on the fur, it looks quite nice.

I see quite a bit as I'm randomly attacked by groups of three foxes.

The hell, man.

Saw someone saying that he's disappointed by the GTX 760 last night. Honestly, after coming off laptops for 5 years onto a desktop with a 760, I'm nothing short of amazed by what it can do.

Probably someone that's only used really high-end stuff, so lower-mid range stuff feels lacking to them now.

Also try turning all post-processing off, I rarely notice the effects of things like AA on the graphics when playing at 1080p(but it may be just me)

Probably. Although, that being said, the 760 is based on the 670 PCB, which was a high-end card during the GeForce 600 days.

I just recently got the game Screencheat. It's pretty fun, though there's no way to up your mouse sensitivity, despite the option being there. Also, if you use a mouse and keyboard, there's tons of mouse acceleration because they designed it for a controller, which is pretty annoying. Online's pretty dead, too, though it was made to be local multiplayer.

The 750ti is the same way, it's equal to a high-end card from like 2011 or something like that.

I usually turn PP down since I dislike the haze that it seems to cast over everything, but that doesn't seem to affect overall performance too much here. Soft shadows and ambient occlusion are killer, though. They look so very nice, though.

AO doesn't seem to affect performance much on mine so I leave it up, neither do shadows.

We're still talking about Far Cry 4, right?

I was talking in general.

I've been looking at two monitors to replace my aging Acer 1680x1050, and I've been looking at these two in particular.

The ASUS is great(I have one), if you don't mind it lacking built-in DVI-I and needing an adapter,

Asus, slimmer bezels. dual HDMI is nice, you could always get a DVI to HDMI cable on the cheap if you really needed one

But, you have to keep in mind the benq's screen is bigger.

By 0.4 inches. Same resolution on both panels. I'd still take the Asus for the thinner bezels and more compact size.

If the 24" was a 1200p that'd be a different story, but they don't really make 16:10s outside of a handful of Dells and a few others

Honestly, an extra .4in isn't worth the extra money(especially when you're sitting as close to something as you do a computer monitor)

Hey guys, can you help me with something here? Trying to decide between the Swiftech H240-X or Phanteks PH-TC14PE for cooling when I begin overclocking.

are those from reputable brands? i've never heard of either of them.

Yes. The Phanteks one reportedly beats the Noctua NH-D14 while Swiftech specializes in watercooling hardware.

The Swiftech is nice if you figure you might expand to chipset or GPU cooling later. You can plumb in another radiator when you need one. Not sure if that's possible with the Phanteks but the ST kit is nice, off the shelf ST components that are definitely a cut above your typical AIO kit.

I tried overclocking my GPU to see if I could get some more frames in FC4, and I'm surprised by the result. I could increase the clock speed from 850/925 boost to 1045 without even adjusting the voltage, and that gives me an extra 10-15 FPS on average. I bet I could go even farther if I wasn't bothered by the noise the cooling fan makes at even 60% RPM.

But the strange thing is that it doesn't seem to affect the stuttering at all. In fact, now it's even worse. The smoother framerate makes those occasional half-second pauses even more noticeable. I wonder what's causing this... it's definitely not the GPU.
