It wasn't just the GPU's cache or RAM. It's also the render output units.

Interesting we bring the RAM up because I saw someone say it was something that doesn't actually affect gaming performance.

By much did they lie on the ROIs?

Claimed it had 64 like the 980 does. Actually has 56.

Which could also be rounding up to the nearest standard(ie: 8, 16, 32, 64, 128)

Pretty sure that rounding up from 56 would be 60.

Re-read my post, I added something to it.

Ah, I see. Yeah, probably. Dunno how they got to 2048KB L2 cache from 1792KB tho.

By rounding up the nearest multiple of five.

Like I said, I've only seen caches labeled 1, 1.5, 2, ect.

Here's some things you guys might find amusing:

A programmer is going to the grocery store and his wife tells him, "Buy a gallon of milk, and if there are eggs, buy a dozen." So the programmer goes, buys everything, and drives back to his house. Upon arrival, his wife angrily asks him, "Why did you get 13 gallons of milk?" The programmer says, "There were eggs!"

A mother said to her programmer son, "While you're out, buy some bread."

Her son never came home.

I don't get the second one(I know it's a wordplay on him taking her to literally, but I don't how how he's taking her that resulted in that)

She didn't end the while loop or tell him to come back. A while loop runs until a condition is met. The condition is that he's out. Since she didn't specify to come back, he stays out.

For example, you could say "while x is less than 10, add one to x." This will stop when x reaches 10. However, if you say "while x is less than 10, add one to y," then the computer will keep adding one to y, because doing so doesn't change the value of x and end the loop.

I have another:

Q: Why was the programmer late for work?

A: When he took his morning shower, he read the instructions on the shampoo, "Lather, rinse, repeat".

I'd to think about when he runs out of shampoo...

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

"well sorry guys the review packet not our fault its not like we could have put 3.5+0.5GB on the box and the true specs as well...............oh wait"

This smells like a scam from Nvidia.

People on LinusTechTips are discussing whether nVIDIA should or shouldn't recall the 970 and fix the RAM partitioning. Seriously, saying it has a 4GB frame buffering but only allowing you to use 3.5GB of that before the memory bandwidth falls off a cliff... what the fuck guys.

Apparently the Vram difference doesn't make all the cards not work though.

True, I've been seeing people saying they can use the full 4GB buffer on their 970 just fine. So maybe affected cards then?

I say anyone who wants a recall regardless as it's still there.

What if their card is fine, though?

Does it matter? The difference is still there regardless. Besides, it could be argued that nobody that doesn't want to recall it won't.

Maybe nVIDIA should just get off their high horse and accept that it's an issue. I like GTX cards and all but sometimes I just don't like the attitude of the company behind them.

Ditto. I tried the 270x once and it locked to a black screen every 30 minutes no matter what I tried, and I had the same issue across 2 cards so even after this I'm unlikely to go AMD anytime soon.

They really screwed themselves with the misrepresented number of ROPs/L2 cache size on paper, though. Explaining away the memory segmentation as a design choice is one thing but when you've had incorrect specs basically everywhere for months...
