Have you ever watched any of the previous generations of MLP?

In the late 1980s or early 1990s, I was a convenience store clerk on the night shift.  My Little Pony Tales & My Little Ponies + Friends were on local tv when I got off work, so I would watch them & then go to bed.  They were about the intellectual level of, say Scoobie Doo (the movies) or Pokémon (Tv show w either Misty or Max & Amy).  Saw the movie as tv episodes. Not too bad. Tony Randal (Felix Unger) as The Moo Chick (IIRC)

After watching some G4 episodes of MLP, I looked up A Very Minty Christmas on the internet.  About the level of Barney or Pokémon (the movie).  Couldn't hack it, no how, no way.  Stopped watching after about 5 minutes

As to the Friends, The Glow Friends were about the frozen outer limit of what I can endure, even half asleep.  Although, they did have a 5 part quest for Glow Moondrop Lake.  They had a poem where each verse was a clue to be unraveled.  At the end, they still hadn't found the lake & the toad wizard told them "Forwards, backwards, you don't lack words".  This meant to run the poem backwards  & find a 2nd meaning in each verse. (Fairly novel idea)  IIRC, one of the clues was "Turn topsy turvy straight to curvy" which was part of the instructions on getting through a maze & also a reference to a whirlpool.

They also had some kind of characters living in a cloud land making dream dust (Dream Weavers?) wich was pretty good.  Internet says they had Mr Potato Head, but I do not recall that AT ALL.  No, not even a little bit.

Yes, yes I have. Everything fully, except for G1, of which I've watched only a couple of episodes.
Remained neutral-to-positive-to-fascinated about everything, including G3.

Very shortly after becoming a Brony, I stumbled upon the television special "Rescue From Midnight Castle" without doing anything like sitting and watching some pretentious YouTube educational lecture about "the history of the earlier generations".

The 80's factor was kind of funny, and it was far from being "girly"

About a year ago, I checked out the complete first season of the original G1 series at the local library and watched it in secret without my nieces and nephews knowing (I am at least 70% responsible for their interest in My Little Pony, would the girls have gotten some toys or coloring books sitting at the bottom of their toyboxes without my input? probably, but they would not be active show fans without me).

... and I got rather bored after the Tirek weirdness of Rescue From Midnight Castle, and then skimmed thru "Escape from Katarina"

The show is much more focused on adventure and danger than any other gen, but also isn't very interesting. it is so flooded with human characters and little monster imps/ friendly little forest gnomes that it is not really about the dynamic of ponykind. It disinterested me in the same manner that Pokémon ended up disinteresting me as an older kid. I simply stopped caring about this endless stream of meeting challenge after challenge, support character after support character, villain after villain, with no real moral outside of "our courage will pull us through in a world we must defend".

I grew up on G1. It ranks right up there with Care Bears, Gummy Bears, and The Wuzzles. Ponies fighting wicked clumsy witches... then G1.5 where they go rollerskating to their favorite ice cream shop. I remember watching an entire episode where baby ponies were learning to play make believe with a ball. What mind-numbing dribble. My immature brain I couldn't get enough of it. I'm re-watching it and I laugh at how bad the animation was. There were so many errors, ponies changing color, voices going to the wrong character, etc.

I skipped G2 and G3.

Started watching G4 after hearing about it from only God knows who. It brought back memories so I gave it a shot. Its one of the best cartoons on TV right now.
