movies/tv Should Sailor Moon get a second chance on US TV?

Since Viz Media has given Sailor Moon a brand new dub through Studiopolis, should this new dub air on US television? We managed to get DBZ Kai on Nicktoons and it introduced Dragon Ball to a new generation, I feel Sailor Moon should get similar treatment, especially with the new crystal series. As for where it should be airing? People are going to say Toonami, but honestly, In this day and age, Sailor Moon isn't right for the current Toonami audience outside of Nostalgia, not to mention Sailor Moon is a show for Tween girls, Adult Swim caters to a largely college aged male audience. I know guys who grew up on the original will tune in just to see the Skirts, but the general Adult Swim audience doesn't care about something aimed at 8-14 year old girls IMO.

I think Disney Channel might be a place to start, the right audience for it. There's going to be some editing required however, but as long as it doesn't reach DiC or 4kids levels of adaptation, it should be fine. And if you still don't like the show being censored, buy the uncut releases. I know most anime fans don't watch anime on TV, but I stand by the belief that the more anime on TV the better, it helps kids get into the medium when they get older, it helps people who aren't anime fans to try out a few titles, and it introduces new audiences to beloved classics. Toonami is a start, but there needs to be more. Oh and for the record, I don't think Discovery Family is the right network either. While it would be cool to have the Twilight/Usagi power hour, FiM skews slightly younger girls than Sailor Moon. MLP is primarily 2-11 year olds, while Moon is more of a 9-14 year old thing.

Knowing Disney, they will do worse than 4kids/DiC. Have they ever had a show or movie with a lesbian couple before? I know for sure they would never show nudity. There can only be so much wrong that can come of this.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sailor Moon on Disney Channel. Despite some edits(which I wouldn't mind if they are reasonable), Disney Channel seems to have the appropriate audience for Sailor Moon. And I'm saying this fully knowing how much they fucked up Naruto Shippuden. Of course the only real thing to worry about is the lesbian couple(though hopefully they won't do something stupid like DiC and make them cousins)

I know Cartoon Network has had Sailor Moon in the past and they could put it on Toonami along with DBZ Kai, but considering they don't seem to like shows starring female leads they'll probably screw it over.

I'd say Nickelodeon, but even though I thought they actually handled DBZ Kai pretty well all things considered, if they didn't show DBZ on their main channel(or an uncut version on Teen Nick) I highly doubt they'd do they same with Sailor Moon. Airing it on Nicktoons wouldn't do it justice, especially since their main channel(and probably Teen Nick) would probably have the more appropriate audience

Like I said, there will be some edits but I don't think it will be as bad as some people think. The old dub of Moon was produced with broadcast syndication in mind. Cable has fewer restrictions so they could get away with more. For the lesbian thig, I don't think they're gonna bust out the old "cousins" card again, but it will obviously be toned down.

Cartoon Network doesn't really run Toonami anymore. Adult Swim (who is actually separate from CN) is in charge of it now.

Actually, Disney Channel's show: Good Luck Charlie, featured a homosexual couple in one episode rather extensively, so I don't see why they'd worry about censoring this show for that reason.

However, I don't really think it would be too successful in the U.S. The show is pretty dated, and most kids in the show's original age range probably wouldn't be as interested in the show as other shows on Disney Channel or whatever channel it would end up on.

That hasn't stopped DBZ Kai and DBZ Movies from airing on Nicktoons.

Would Nicktoons censor or heavily edit it though? I'm not really familiar with Nicktoons' standards.

From what I understand, the Nictoons edit of Kai is a lot less censored than the Toonzai/Vortexx airing. Mainly due to Nicktoons being a cable network. Considering what DBZ Kai got away with on Nicktoons (Bulma in her underwear, People dieing, and I think there was some blood that slipped by) I doubt Moon would be too butchered on Nicktoons.

Hmm, well, if that's the case; I suppose Nicktoons would be a good network to air the show on. I presume due to DBZ being aired; there would be an audience for Sailor Moon, right?

Plus, Yu Gi Oh, Digimon, and a few toyetic shows are all ready airing on Nicktoons, so the channel obviously has experience with anime. But this also brings up the same problem with Adult Swim. Nicktoons caters to a primarily male audience, not only that, but its target demographic is boys roughly 7-10 years old, an audience who largely hasn't hit puberty yet, so the "short skirts" and "dem legs" cards can be thrown out the window. Toonami had an excuse in 1998, its target audience was 9-14 year olds, puberty hitting tweens. But, now the only real place Moon can go is Disney, one of the few networks who for better or worse, takes the 9-14 market seriously these days.

All things considered, I thought Nicktoons did a good job with DBZ Kai. Aside from a couple poor or unnecessary edits, they weren't afraid to leave in the stuff they did, and the dialogue was mostly in tact(aside from the swearing, and some of the heavier dialogue). Since from what I remember, Sailor Moon is less graphic than DBZ(or Naruto, if we're going to include Disney) I think Sailor Moon would have an easier time on either Disney or Nick than those two

Boomerang might be a good channel for Sailor Moon. It's pretty much the nostalgia channel, they have mostly Hannah Barbara cartoons, but I believe they also have some other classic cartoons like Cartoon Cartoons.
