Spikey-Wikey 378 December 1, 2014 Share December 1, 2014 (edited) I'm left handed and I want to be right handed so I don't have problems with can-openers or binders when I'm older. So these are two things I'm wondering: 1.Can someone tell me how the pencil/pen is held in the right-hand or show me? 2.Any way on how I should write? Thanks! Edit: Please don't reply with stuff like I'm left handed and can't be use my right handed. Edited December 1, 2014 by Sweetie Drops
GammaDove 428 December 1, 2014 Share December 1, 2014 You just kind of grab the pencil in the opposite hand with the same form as the original. You just start from the basics again, but don't forget to write with the original too so you don't forget how.
Frostgage 7,976 December 1, 2014 Share December 1, 2014 I'm right-handed and am pretty much useless with my left hand. I guess just start doing things with your weaker hand until it begins to feel natural. Signature by Lacerna | You should fill out my Johari Window. All the cool kids are doing it. Admiral Regulus 2,769 December 1, 2014 Share December 1, 2014 (edited) 1. Be born ambidextrous. 2. ??? 3. Profit! Seriously though, I am ambidextrous by nature. I usually use my right hand for most tasks that require me to, but when given a choice, I may as well flip a coin. For example, I eat and write with my right hand, but I prefer to throw a ball with my left. I also do a certain thing that I probably shouldn't mention here with my left. When I was in martial arts, none of my masters could figure out whether I was left or right handed, because I could hit just as hard and felt just as comfortable with both. I brush my teeth with both hands; right hand to left side and left hand to right side. So really, the point is, you can't just make yourself ambidextrous. If you can't use a can opener comfortably, by definition, you are not ambidextrous. Ambidextrous means you can use both hands equally. DATA EXPUNGED 324 December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 (edited) Try writing your name, over and over again with your weak hand, and eventually, your penmanship should be atleast passable with both hands. Also try doing some of the small things you normally do with your dominant hand (eg. Open doors, using remotes, using utensils, ect...). I was born ambidextrous and will often write two sentences at a time (given one of my hands has a head start so they don't bump into each-other). Edit: To grip your pen with the right hand , you use the exact same fingers as you would with your left in the same positions, just mirrored. You can make your right hand a little more comfortable, however you will never be fully ambidextrous unless you were born that way, or trained at a very early age. Edit: Please don't reply with stuff like I'm left handed and can't be use my right handed. Here is how you become ambidextrous: Tie your left hand behind your back and live like that for a month. Then untie your hand, peel it off your back skin and from then on always use right hand for everything and if you instinctively go for left hand, slap yourself with a dead frozen salmon or trout or other large sweet water fish. After such efforts you should be adequately mentally confused to forget why you are even slapping yourself with a fish and can start your new happy life as a beloved patient in a mental ward! ...What was I offering advice for again? Oh yes! The perfect muffin batter secret is to use carbonated water in the dough, and you can have it flavored even if you want extra something in the way of aroma.
Rhythmic Tempo 49 December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 (edited) As a left handed person taught to write right handed and re mastering my left on writing, don't jump straight to writing. You will probably get demotivated as I did. I would start by doing simple things, like opening doors or lifting stuff. Just keep in mind to use your right hand on occasion. I would just slowly work your way into it. Not attempting to write until later. Drop back in with some progress occasionally, I would like to see how it goes! Invincible 2,092 December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 I once read that most ambidextrous aren't naturals, but they become so after significant use and practice of their less dominant hand. If you dedicate into using that other hand enough time you will eventually get the motoric skills required to do such tasks with it. As for how to hold tools like a pen or a pencil in it, it's pretty much a symmetrical case of your left hand. Mind that since you switched hands, the direction in which text is written down, and how the tip of your pencil / pen brushes against the paper changes. 1 My OCs for Roleplay purposes: o Lit Fuse (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/lit-fuse-r6608) o Dust Devil (http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/dust-devil-r7357)
Creamy Arty 6,252 December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 Although some are born with a stronger inclination towards this, it's totally possible to train yourself to be as good at it as anyone who was. All it really comes down to is practice. That simple. The only catch is it's going to take a lot of it, and consequently a lot of time. I'm also left-hand dominant, and most of the time objects and tasks naturally drift to my left hand, but I've trained myself to do almost everything equally well with my right hand as my left, except for writing. Writing has been more of a challenge and I simply didn't feel like dedicating myself to it. I've even become just as proficient using my non-dominant eye with my right hand for shooting as I have with my left hand and left eye; I can grab a pistol in each hand or move a pistol from one hand to the other rather seamlessly. Just keep working at it and you'll get there. 1 Kyoshi made this ^^ Come join us on Equestria.tv on Fridays at 6 PM Eastern for our weekly movie nights!
