Let's use established canon names for the countries where we can, and common fanon names where we can't. How about Equestrian Strategies was contracted by the government of Prance for an invasion into Saddle Arabia. The expy will be clear, even if the fake names don't match up directly.

 

Equestria, of course, is completely against this move.

Gonna tweak that a bit, the idea of Prance invading Saddle Arabia sounds rather... Disagreeable.

 

Instead here's a scenario, Saddle Arabia is under insurgency, with fanatical political house tribes starting up roars. The Unified Monarchy of Saddle Arabia has asked for support of Equestria but have been denied because of recent allegations of possible negotiations between Changelings and the Arabian Government (which they have neither.confirmed nor denied.)

 

However, Prance had agreed to give support. However due to a low military force they are collaborating with the Equestrian Strategies Group to assist the Saddle Arabian Monarchy.

This is 1955. There are no arrows or blades in combat. I can list Sniper as your strength, but cannons and launchers aren't part if the system either.

 

I should also mention that the war with the Changelings is a Cold War, so there isn't really a pressing threat of invasion, just that Changelings occasionally slip through the cracks and infiltrate Equestria.

Just clarifying, the first city they are advancing to is not the assault point, it's just the rendezvous point.

Further north. There is a city under insurgent control with many others that have an advance to surround the main capital.

But that don't mean along the way they could encounter guerilla insurgents.

Here's the territorial hold.

The southern regions along with the eastern areas (where the capital is) remain under government control. The northern and mid section territories are under faction control. The western territories is mountainous regions, while the insurgents have tried to claim it, natives called Shiinues held off the enemy advance.

Also, remember that during the trip you are assigned with Prench forces, you aren't in any vehicle with the allied mercs.

Obviously he needs a bit of editing to his backstory. For now I'll say he was raised by Griffin immigrants in Prance and joined the military when he was of age, we have to many mercs as it is.
