Need help developing a pony OC

He's the first OC I ever had in my head but he's been left in the back of my brain for sometime.

 

Name: Doesn't have one

 

Race: unicorn 

 

Age: 15-20

 

Colours: I need a colour won't stand out and blend in well and is sort of mellowish and doesn't come on too strong. For the mane I'm going with a blue, I don't know what shade but I was thinking of somewhere along the lines of royal blue

 

 Personality: Hipster  A sort of very poetic soul but not too posh and snobbish. Likes art and poetry, philosophy, that kind of stuff. Calmly and gently spoken. A thinker, bit of a talker but not a chatterbox. Enjoys reading all types of books. Rather insecure on the inside and lacks motivation to do thing and doesn't have the drive to start things himself. High on self doubt, low on esteem since he has never really achieved the 'great' things he wants to do. He doesn't like high stress situations and would rather run away from them than face his problems

 

Backstory: Now here's the real problem. I want to give him a somewhat broken family but it always sound really dramatic and overdone.

Keep on brainstorming. My OCs backstory was developed over time through sketches, and imagining this character in different situations. It helps to keep an open mind, and don't set anything in stone early on. Surround yourself in mlp, and know that inspiration can come from anywhere. Basically, dont force out your OC. Get to know him. These things take time.
