Andaasonsan 3,205 December 14, 2014 Share December 14, 2014 @@ghostfacekiller39, brought this up in the "Pet Peeves" thread and it's something I've been thinking too. Having that box makes me feel really uncomfortable viewing people's profiles. It may seem really neurotic, but I want to be able to view a profile page without having to worry about if I will seem to be stalking a user. Well it probably is neurotic. I'm very neurotic. It's also kind of annoying that whatever you're doing on here is view-able by other users by hovering over your name. Could we get rid of this or make it possible to browse anonymously? 8 Application REJECTED!
ghostfacekiller39 23,860 December 14, 2014 Share December 14, 2014 (edited) There is a possibility to browse anonymously on IPB and it was used on this forum in the past. It'd ease the uncomfortable feeling of letting people know where you are at - such as what topic you are browsing and whose profile you are looking at, and, I'm just assuming here, it should be just a flip of the switch, seeing as another forum I'm on that uses IPB software allows for private browsing and the staff here is able to do so as is. I'm for the re-introduction of private browsing entirely Edited December 14, 2014 by ghostfacekiller39 7 He who is Positively Obsessed With All Things Rarity!!! Check out the Rarity Fan Club! Nohbdy 4,108 December 14, 2014 Share December 14, 2014 Thanks for your feedback! Yes, that box can be disabled if the user wishes to do so. However, if it's enabled, the only way to keep your name off the list is to visit the profile as a guest. You can do that by viewing the profile in your browser's Private/Incognito mode. As for the "Currently" information, that can be discussed, I think. Cleaning up the hovercard has been on my mind for a while now. People have brought up anonymous browsing in the past. So, why is it gone? The short answer is that the Poniverse-based login system doesn't have the option to log in anonymously. The long answer is that the Poniverse-based login system doesn't have the option to log in anonymously, and there's currently no pressing need to implement it. There are only so many developers on the team, and there's a lot of work to be done elsewhere right now. Will anonymous logins ever be brought back? Maybe, maybe not. The question is whether such an option will positively impact the community's environment and the overall user experience. In the end, it simply isn't a priority.

That's a setting in the administrator control panel, which non-staff don't have access to.
Guest90210 3,568 December 14, 2014 Share December 14, 2014 I agree. Stuff like that, "Time Spent Online", what you're currently browsing, the "Stats" page, and a few other things should be able to be made private should a user choose so. No one really needs to know what topic you're looking at, your exact times of activity, etc.
Moved to Elsewhere 11,331 December 16, 2014 Share December 16, 2014 Honestly, whenever I get a slew of people randomly viewing my profile at once, I get a bit uneasy. I'm wondering, "Was it something I said?" "Are people talking about me somewhere else?" I also can't view people's profiles without being worried that they'll think I'm a stalker. So yeah, I'd prefer it if the latest visitors wasn't there.
碇 シンジン 27,431 December 16, 2014 Share December 16, 2014 I myself I'm a stat guy I love graphs and charts made out of numbers. Numbers are so interesting. I love Time spent online stat and all that stuff because then I can calculate lot of funny things and it makes me squee. And I like the latest visitors tab too I'm maybe bit of a stalker but I spend nearly 12 hours on forums in per day so there will be times when I'm bored then I usually check users profiles and stuff like that. I also think its pretty neat to see who visited your profile but maybe it's just me 1 Rarity Fan Club

Jeric 46,851 December 16, 2014 Share December 16, 2014 I usually visit the people who visit me and become friends xD To be fair, that is the best use case of the feature. I've done the same thing. Almost the entirety of my friends list excluding staff and the RFC happened just like that.
boiteporte 591 December 17, 2014 Share December 17, 2014 (edited) I agree with the fact that all those things that people can see when hovering their mouse on your username is very annoying (and a pretty useless feature too). I am 100 % for more privacy on those forums. I go on a lot of forums and this is the only one on which people can see exactly what you are doing at any instant and that there is no way to disable it ! I also strongly dislike the fact that people know if you have been viewing their profile or not (which again brings to the fact of lack of privacy). For my third point, I solved this problem by not viewing any user profiles anymore. I guess this solution is as good as any.
