I really miss Roger Ebert. I always used to read his review of a movie before anyone else's. Now I just sort of pick whatever pops up on Rotten Tomatoes without thinking too hard about it.

 

His reviews were always very fair assessments of a movie's strengths and weaknesses. He also had a really neat philosophy of not comparing how good a movie is compared to movies in general, but instead to other movies of the same genre. Otherwise you're making an apples to oranges comparison. Like if he was reviewing a romantic comedy he'd review it by how well it works as a romantic comedy. After learning about this view of his, it gave me a new perspective of how to view media that influences me a lot.
