movies/tv Shows that got you through hard times?

Thought this might be an interesting topic, as I'm going through something like this and wondered if anyone else has/is.  I'm currently going through something but The Office is actually really helping me get through.  I love the show.  It's funny, it's sad, it's entertaining.  And honestly, I feel pretty much healed after watching it.  As silly as it may seem, but it's true.

So, how about anyone else?

When my grandma passed away I took it really hard. I remember one night (this happened more than once, though) I went to bed and had a nightmare that she was still in the bed sick... It's hard to describe but when I woke up I was so upset that I felt like I couldn't breathe, and I definitely could not fall back asleep. I decided to sit down and watch through One Piece dubbed. I had just discovered that with a subscription I could watch the Water 7 and Enies Lobby arcs dubbed and they were always my favorite. Watching that helped keep me calm and get my mind off of it all.

During 6th through 7th grade, I remember watching more of "Arthur" than I was when I was younger. Because my social life was at its worst back then, I used "Arthur" as an escapism. It gave me a vision of the social life I was dreaming for especially how the main characters managed to form a connection, that the setting was realistic, and it touched on serious topics. I would say "Arthur" is like MLP: FiM in a way that characters managed to be friends with each other despite differences.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.

You remember the Futurama episode where they end up on that planet where that energy being is holding the Star Trek TOS crew captive, and Leela asks Fry why Star Trek is so important to him?  And he says, "Back in the 20th century, when I was all alone, and didn't have any friends, Star Trek made me feel like maybe I did."  And then Leela says that's sweet and pathetic.  It rings true.  Fry's feelings, I mean.  That's why it was a good scene.  Star Trek TNG and Voyager were like that for me.  They stil are, really.  Those shows make me feel less lonely.  I've said many times that Star Trek (not so much TOS, or goofy Abrams movies) is more similar to Friendship is Magic than any other show.  Star Trek was never about realistic sci-fi.  It was about learning valuable lessons, the importance of family and friendship, community and belonging, and most of all, what it means to be human.  Sound familiar?  Star Trek makes me feel exactly the same way as FIM.  It lets me escape into the world that I feel like I belong in.

I thought I was the only one! But also, I just moved, and it was kinda hard leaving everything behind, so I found myself a little sad. I had already discovered FIM, but we hadn't set up our tv yet. But when we did, I watched FIM everyday on Netflix, and it helped me.

Yeah, that's really true.  I don't really have many friends to talk to about what's going on (at least none in person) so it really does help me to watch The Office and kind of feel like I'm not alone.  It's good to hear others feel the same (of course with other shows). :3

MLP works for me.  But generally I can escape with a large number of shows, particularly action ones where one has to concentrate to follow the action like Criminal Minds, Miami Vice, Law and Order and such like.
