lelouch. 625 February 10, 2015 Share February 10, 2015 I think people should have the liberty of deleting their accounts when they get tired of this place, or at least have the mods delete their account permaban their account. I know the staff say that most people decide to come back, and thats why accounts aren't removed on requests, but I think some people are serious about leaving. People who make new accounts and leave without spending time here don't care about their accounts. The ones who do, think differently. I'd very much like for my account to be banned.
Lisa 5,553 February 10, 2015 Share February 10, 2015 Nobody can be 100% absolutely sure that they're never going to come back here. Back in early 2014 I left this forum thinking I'd never come back, and then I returned in November.
Pineapple Bloom 511 February 10, 2015 Share February 10, 2015 Why is it so important to delete your account if you don't want to use it anymore? You could just log out and never log in again. 9 "My past does not define me, because my past is not today."
GeneralDirection 1,050 February 10, 2015 Share February 10, 2015 don't care about their accounts - If someone doesn't care about their account, then they shouldn't care what happens to it either. - Not deleting it leaves people free to come and go as they please. - Deleting accounts is a waste of time for forum staff. - Non-existant accounts create dead-end links that will only serve to further frustrate users (as they already do when someone's banned) and hurt search engine ranking. This will also create 'holes' in the forum since the user's content is deleted along with their account. - Your account will certainly not be banned; that is 'reserved' for people who are breaking the forum rules. I can't think of any purpose that deleting accounts would serve. 7 Signature artwork by Magfen. Profile picture by @Princess Silky

Shanks 10,816 February 11, 2015 Share February 11, 2015 That sounds all well and good but what if said user changes their mind and wants to be unbanned/undeleted? Someone can be unbanned easily enough but I don't know how easy it would be or even if it is possible to un delete a user. Even putting that aside it really takes up staff time that could be better spent on other things. Rarity Get's Cockroaches

Jokuc 8,173 February 12, 2015 Share February 12, 2015 Seriously though, I think the whole thing about wanting to delete your account has less to do with "well I don't need it anymore" and more to do with "I feel uncomfortable having my email and shit stored in a place where I won't know what's going on, I wanna leave this place and cover my tracks, yo!".

I can't think of any purpose that deleting accounts would serve. That sufficiently sums of the official position of MLP Forums and the current staff. While we have gone on record as being receptive to changing profile content and have even hidden sensitive posts, the information on MLP Forums provides a historical record and narrative that should be preserved. That is still our policy. The FAQ covers this, as does a multitude of topics in this forum. While we respect a members decision to leave, and their privacy, we technically will not ban or delete a members record at their request.
