One channels music while the other changes the air, yet they achieve the same end. Better yet, look at canon characters. Pinkie's mark is balloons, but that extends to her party prowess, love of laughter, baking ability, musical skills, and so much more. Fluttershy has butterflies, which branches into her gentle nature, love of animals, and kindness to others. Maybe for a more metaphorical meaning, the cutie mark could be a flower, because a flower grows when it is given love. And people need to be loved and understood to grow.
