   Starlight Glimmer is her name, and deception is her gain, from what I can tell she is a charismatic guru, using the power of words and charm to ascend, for this is going to be an fascinating villain, the perfidious trickster, a villain so rarely seen in family entertainment. The plot sounds similar to a Twilight Zone episode, Rod Serling wrote antagonists, that didn't appear to look like a stereotypical thug, for villainy comes in many forms, and Starlight Glimmer looks to be a creepy pony, using semantics and her appealing good looks, to mould and warp the gullible, and feeble minds of thus unknown population centre, I am eager to see how she plays out, and how the mane six can resolve the false pretences that Starlight Glimmer is using, this is getting me excited, I so want to see season five, and the premiere and its plot would make any master of suspense blush.

So does this mean the finale villain(s) are going to be anarchists looking to restore the "Natural Order" to Equestria by removing the Princesses?  

 

Also can we please stop calling Starlight Glimmer a communist? She's not advocating for the end of class struggle or arguing philosophy about the division of resource and the  means of production.

No. Sorry I was just didn't want to offend you or anyone for thinking about her as a communist, I mean she's a bad person it's just I don't equate communism to bad guy since I tend to lean very much towards socialism and dislike people just thinking that the villain is communist when it's more about the divisions of resources and philosophy about social classes.

From the looks of the 'borg unity' trope going on with cutie marks, expressions, etc, she's looking to be one of those self-righteous conqueror villains, who either think they're doing the right thing through their extreme methods, or who just want to build a new nation in which they're the leader, where they can impose their ways onto others.

 

Either way, that's a much darker and more complex villain trope than the 'haha, I'm dark and I have powers and I will nighttime times fifty billion', type of villain that Nightmare Moon was, the 'FUCK ALL YOUR SHIT <:D' type of villain that Discord was, and more so on the level of dark that Tirek was getting towards as a villain. The show continues to adopt darker themes when it comes to creatures and bad guys as time goes on, and hopefully this chick won't disappoint. She is effectively Twilight's second major encountered problem after Tirek, as a princess.

 

Having an 'Anti-Twilight' formula to her character as some have suggested wouldn't surprise me, but in a broader sense I believe it's safer to say it's likely this villain will serve to challenge the concept of friendship at a basic level, through taking away friendship, relationships and free will itself through this bizarre borg/unity effect. Something that the new Princess of Friendship cannot stand for.

 

* If anyone here has watched The Legend of Korra, the Season 4 villain of that series had a villain very much like this description, too. She was a 'the ends justify the means' type of villain, who had good intentions at heart, but let her extremest approach and iron fist corrupt her into a tyrant. Some of the most sympathetic villains were born from good intentions. An interesting comparison if you've had the fortune to watch that epic series as well, because that villain served to challenge the primary protagonist, like I imagine this mare will with Twilight.

I'm not really having any high hopes as Starlight Glimmer will likely just be dealt with like most other major villains Twilight Sparkle has dealt with, a magical blast. If Starlight Glimmer can be handled without resorting to magic, that would be something new.

If you only knew how many conversations i had with one of my real life brony friends. I said months in advance that this will have some idealistic undertones, but he always said that the show will never go this way. Now i can say: "I am not kind of guy who said i told you so, but I TOLD YOU SO."

I love the dark feel of this. All of the ponies having an equal sign as their cutie marks is just so twisted. The fact that they are all smiling is what makes it so twisted.

 

I'm pretty sure that she brainwashed them for this cult. When brainwashed, the ponies' marks turn into equal signs. Just my thoughts.

Are you excited for this new and mysterious (not to mention disturbing) villain to take the stage for Season 5? 

 

I'm very curious about how they handle her. Going from the looks alone it seems like she won't be some over-powered super-character, so she may be quite intelligent. We'll see though, but I love a devious smile like that. <3

She's probably what they were TRYING to do with Shimmer, but they failed on that front. From what I've seen though they seem to of learned from their mistakes and made a much more polished baddie this time around.

x) Only question left is will this chick join the Reformation Council of Royal Ex-Baddies with Discord and Trixie, or will she vanish after the intro eps. The writers at the beginning made it sound like she'd be reoccurring, but it could just be how they worded things. Then again, they went into detail about how she seems to possess potential for being misunderstood, because she simply has false beliefs about what friendship is. Like I said, we'll have to see.

I don't think she'll be so easy to get rid of. I also don't think they are going to use the elements on her. Personally I hope she is working for someone bigger...maybe a certain blue two horned necromancer or something >.>

Well naturally they aren't using the Elements, those were effectively removed from the Deus ex machina throne in the S4 Premiere. But I doubt they'd use them on her anyway, for the same reason we didn't see them use them on Trixie in Magic Duel. The Elements were reserved for the super villains who wanted to to cause mass destruction on a global scale. Trixie, this new girl, etc are more or less just normal ponies with a very bad agenda, that could be corrected. Spose' they were used on Sunset Shimmer, but only after she transformed into a demon sorceress.

 

Moar Discord is always a good thing, but I don't see her having affiliation with him. He's about chaos and disorder, she's trying to create organized equality. x) Plus I think he's pretty much fully reformed following the events of the S4 Finale.
