Because he went to school, he paid a lot of attention  (or at least to the offensive spells  ). 

 

 

Seeing that she was no longer needed, and that none of them really knew where they were, she jumped off the ship onto land and began walking around trying to find something that could help her figure out where she was.

He doesn't really know that she dropped it on purpose, he can't have full proof of it. But he is quite sure you did it, since you were focusing on him and then suddenly it would just drop. Couldn't have been accidental
