Red felt the stab and touched the dart with her hoof. She felt the immediate, slight sluggishness. She listened to Scarlet's instructions.

She stared down at the tiles as the voice faded away, examining them.

"There must be some sort of pattern," she mused quietly. "I'm going to try stepping on a tile." She stepped on a nearby hawk tile, cautiously.

As Red pressed down on the tile, an audible click sounded. Suddenly, the spikes on the wall shot across the tile, just barely missing her hoof.

More spikes formed on the walls to take their place.

 

There was definitely a trick to this room, but they will need to think carefully.

Red jumped back at the spikes. She calmed herself with a slow breath.

"Alright, don't step on the hawk." She mused. "I'm going to try again. We don't have much time." She moved forward again, considering, and decided to try her hoof at a mouse, tentatively stepping on it, even more cautiously than she had previously, body prepared to jump back in a moment.

Blizzard took note of the trick trap puzzles of the room, "Hmmm...I'm gonna try....a fish tile." He then cautiously stepped forward, looked around for a bit, and then cautiously stepped on the fish tile that was in front of him. "Is-is it safe?" He said quietly as he waited for an effect.

The two ponies stepped on a mouse and fish tile respectively.

 

A click sounded...but no traps went off. They seemed to be safe to walk on.

 

At least, these two tiles were. Each one represented a different animal, but there was a trick to them if they knew their creatures...

Blizzard had closed his eyes in fear for a moment, but after a while, he noticed no tricks to this particular tile, "Ok, good. What's next? Let's see here, our mouse and fish tiles don't do anything. I'm gonna try something else riiight.....here!" He then steps cautiously onto a lion tile.

caliber was quiet, watching the tiles. and grinned when ice stepped on the fish and received no penalty.

 

"iv figured it out." he said, "the order is the food chain. fish is at the bottom. next up is the hawk, who eats the fish."

As Blizzard and Caliber stepped on the lion and hawk tiles, spikes shot across the respective tiles, barely missing them.

 

"Ooh, so close!" Scarlett's voice taunted to Caliber, "I won't say you're right, but you're not exactly wrong either!"

 

More spikes appeared to take up the wall. The fish tile, however, gave no reaction.

 

"You better act fast, you haven't got much time!"

Red was beginning to feel the poison taking effect. It hadn't worked for the others, but perhaps it would be different for her because she was on a mouse tile.

Tentatively, she stepped on a hawk tile, body tense and ready to dodge anything at a moment's notice.

Blizzard then took note of the spikes that almost grazed him. He then began to look around the room, "Hmmm....ok. Let's see this." Blizzard then took a more confident step towards a mouse tile and stepped onto it. He stood there, and waited for a reaction, "Hmm..."

An audible clock sounded as Red stepped on the hawk tile, and another round of spikes barely missed her.

 

However, when Blizzard stepped on the mouse tile, nothing happened.

 

Perhaps, after their experiments, the puzzle would become more clear for the three...

Blizzard took note of the fact that he was ok on the fish and mouse tiles, "Aha..." And he noticed the hawk and lion tiles were dangerous, "By jove! I got it! The prey are all safe! And the predatorial ones are bad! Lemme see again here..." He found a deer tile, and jumped to it.

Indeed, as Blizzard hopped onto the deer tile, nothing happened! A click sounded, but no trap!

 

It looked like he was onto it, and had figured out the puzzle.

 

However, with the scarce number of prey tiles, leaping from one to another would prove challenging, but not impossible.

Red reflected on the answer to the puzzle. It was probably a subtle way to tell them that they were prey to Scarlet. Which was annoying, but it wasn't going to be true, no matter what Red did.

 

Red moved back on a mouse tile and hopped from prey to prey. "Good job, Blizzard." She called, but the moment she was distracted she nearly tripped over herself. She managed to catch herself before landing on a predator tile and jumped to the end.

Blizzard was confident in his abilities now that he knew which tiles to step on. But it wasn't going to be easy due to the utter scarce amount of prey tiles, "Hmmm...yep. That seems to be the puzzle alright. But now we just gotta make these stupid jumps from each of the tiles." He then jumped to a distant fish tile.

caliber smiled, now that the puzzle was solved.

 

"here we go!!" he called out, as he started leaping all over the place, proving his nimbleness.

 

he reached the other side, rather quickly. "c'mon, we need ta save lunA!" he called out at the others.

Blizzard had made his insertion, and had made it to the end of the room along with Caliber, "Aha1 Yes! Nice one bro. Alright, now we just gotta get the cure for the poison from those bottles, choose our door, and get closer to Luna!" He then began to look around the room to see each door option.

Red took a bottle from the shelf. It could have been a fake, but even if it was, she would die either way. She downed the bottle and immediately felt better, much to her relief.

"Let's go east from here," Red inputted. "That way, we won't have to backtrack. And, statistically, it's more likely to be east." Red moved to the east door. "Oh, and allow me to congratulate you again on figuring out the puzzle," she added, smiling warmly-- or, sort of warmly-- at Blizzard. "But is going east alright with every pony?"

To their relief, the antidotes were the real deal, and the poison quickly flushed from their systems.

 

"Well, you three got lucky...for now," Scarlett snickered, "but I shall have more surprises for you all soon, my little prey!"

 

The doors all opened up, allowing them passage.

Team B went through their door.

When they entered the room, there were numbers and letters scattered across the walls. And there was a box with a yellow holographic pony coming out of it. From there, boxes sprang out of the ground, trapping Icarus and Ticktock inside, leaving Tyra on her own.

 

The yellow hologram was of a elderly stallion and he slowly spoke, "Aha young one. Your friends are trapped so you must answer my puzzling math....puzzles. Get them right, and I'll let them go free. But get more than 3 wrong, and your princess will lose magic. Are you ready little one?"

Tyra perked up and glanced around the room, seeing her friends had been captured!

She went to go try busting them out, until she heard a strange voice. She turned and saw the image of an elderly stallion.

 

"A math puzzle, you say?" She repeated, then stepped forward, wearing a confident smirk, "I accept! Bring forth your first challenge!"

The elderly hologram chuckled, "Ok then. Remember, the elderly have the advantage of wisdom. Something you younger folk don't care about these days." He then began, "Take the number of degrees of a circle," he then makes a holographic circle appear, "add that to the number of days of a leap year," he makes a holographic calendar, "and then subtract number of years in a century," he makes a holographic word of 'century, "What is the answer young one?"

Tyra scoffed. "I have my elders travelling with me!" She yelled, nodding to the axe on her back.

 

She listened intently to the instructions, head tilting in thought.

"Aye, let me think...circle...um, a leap year...?" She muttered, already getting confused.

 

She tapped her temple with her hoof. "Let me think...!" She repeated, sounding more frustrated.

The hologram chuckled once again, "Hehe...no rush young one. You just have your friends held up in cages, and your princess' magic is being drained. But you know, no big deal. In my day, the younger ones would always listen to their elders. That's how they've managed to become decent adults. But you and your team have done nothing of the sort. So, once again...what's you answer...?"

Tyra snarled at the hologram's taunts, frustrated with the complexity of the first challenge.

"Do not mock me, elder!" She snapped, "I will pass this test! Now give me time to think!"

 

She tapped her temple again. "Um...three-...-twenty-..."

 

Eventually, she perked up. "Six hundred and twenty-six!"
