Should feature length animations become a thing in the fandom?

I'm well aware that making full length animations isn't for everyone, look what happened to Journey of the Spark. However, if there would be more people who have the time and resources to do such things, it could be the next big thing in the fandom. They could basically be fanfics in animated form. Also, they don't have to be individual animations, they could have multiple parts like a miniseries. For this to happen, there just needs to be more experienced people in the fandom who are willing to make such animations.

Due to the sheer time it takes to create a full length film, the fact it is  a volunteer project which leads to key and principle crew turnover, and the fact that several false starts and cancellations occurred with more than one project - I do not believe feature length is the way to go. I would rather see a series of shorts. Until a group does complete a 60+ minute film ... I can't expect it to ever happen.

I would love to learn how to animate and have it look exactly like the show. But yeah, I'm in agreement with Jeric.  It ain't gonna be done in a day.

Well yeah because of they think like that then it will be doomed to failure. Besides, they don't all have to be over 60 minutes, others could just be like short films, like they could make an animation out of something like the fanfic, Like Fine Wine.

So... you mean tha animations we already have? There are a lot of fan made animations/films on youtube, also about fanfics. Try ''finding your mare'' on youtube. People are already doing it

At the same token though, corporate only paid feature length films can be a complete and utter disaster. Case in point: Warhammer 40,000 Ultramarines. Completely, and utterly disregarded the canon fluff, had the worst voice acting ever, and psyker chaplains? REALLY?

Pretty much this. People also have to contend with jobs and classes; so it would be VERY difficult to get anything feature-length done. Not to mention the resources that it would require, the group work, and all of the that the logistics just don't make sense.

It's a nice thought, but more than likely it is out of the question. Not to mention that such a project MIGHT attract the attentions of the Hasbro legal department.

Here's the thing- the animations we have right now get to be whatever they want because they're short. They take less time to do and so it's generally OK to make them about absolutely nothing. Look at Fluffle Puff, those shorts are funny when they're short and sweet, but try to drag them into a movie and it'd become cliche and corny by the end. Yet, even in the short animation form, we can have touching emotional stories like Snowdrop, which I think has all the impact it needs and doesn't need to be stretched into an hour and a half long spectacle to make it's point. I feel if people started feeling like they needed to put that amount of time and effort into an animation, we'd lose some of the carefree silliness that helps define the fandom, and as you can probably tell by my profile pic, is one of my favorite things about being a brony.
