  1. Maybe I was the odd one out for thinking this, but I was glad FiM ended when it did. I love the show, and I still find the characters immensely special, but it was time to go in my eyes. It became really apparent when the Student Six showed up that they were running out of ideas for the main six, hence they brought in a younger group to once again learn what our main characters learned in the first few seasons. I think being zombified like the Simpsons would have been a far worse fate for FiM than the relatively good-natured ending that we got. It would have been great if they could have somehow worked the EQG cast into the Movie or into the Season 10 debut and finale episodes, but I understand why that may have still been two much content to try and work into too little time. It definetly beats all the characters getting boiled down into self-parody, which seems to be what happens with shows that stick around past their sell-by date. Regarding G5, I’ve enjoyed it so far but I think there’s a sad realization attached to it - it’s not 2012 anymore. The days of ponies being this world-stopping juggernaut of a trend, that’s over. The days of new members joining forums like this one in the hundreds per day, that’s unfortunately in the past (at least, for now). I think a lot of us have pony forever associated with our High School and College years, so it’s only natural that we feel that bittersweet smooch of nostalgia every time we rewatch an old episode of FiM. Modern incarnations of pony can and probably will be excellent in the future, they may even be strong enough to bring in new waves of bronies into the fandom, but they’ll never be a time machine. We’ve got to keep that in mind when we watch new versions of MLP, because judging it against FiM objectively is fine, but downgrading it because it isn’t an exact recreation of the early years of the fandom just isn’t fair. All that aside, I think G5 is fine thus far. It’s a tad underwhelming and you’ve kind of got to turn your brain off to enjoy it. It doesn’t have the depth of world-building that G4 had, but I’m not sure that 5 minute episodes on YouTube would be great for that no matter what the staff did. I like our characters but some of them, especially Sunny, could use some more depth. I think if it ever found it’s footing I could really grow to love it, but unfortunately the format of the show just doesn’t lend itself to the depth that I think it would really take for me to like it as much as I liked FiM. So I am happy to have it, because pony in general makes me happy, but I do think it falls short of FiM.
  2. Not to hijack this thread for EQ.TV nostalgia, but man, nothing could ever beat Movie Night on the old EQ.TV. I absolutely understand and respect that the Poniverse is entirely run by volunteers, and that EQ.TV had been basically vacant since pony’s new format didn’t lend itself well to episode streams, but I would love to see something similar come along in the future. Get a bunch of pony fans together for another movie night on any platform, and I am in!
  3. Assuming I’m a pony in Equestria while all of this is going on? I’d go directly to the source - I’d make a trip to Canterlot and try to find a way to get an audience with Luna herself. Bullying somebody in their dreams would be way out of character for her, so I’d want to alert her in case the Tantabus or some other vile creature was about to pounce on Ponykind.
  4. We have a healthy mix of all political viewpoints, and I’ve been surprised with the diversity of views around this place (I used to assume most of the fandom was liberal). I’m a Tea Party conservative myself.
  5. We’re going to miss you @Mesme Rize, I hope your break helps you unwind, and hopefully when you return the show discussion isn’t a political debate. Also, don’t know if you consider it part of the forums or not, but as far as I’m concerned you’re always welcome to drop by on movie night, I’ve never seen our conversation there get political. In the meantime, rest up and we will be looking forward to your return.
  6. 41* Fahrenheit, no wind, and dry. It would be sunny, but it’s 11:00 pm here, so...yeah, I guess clear is the correct term.
  7. The fact that this day exists makes me incredibly happy.
  8. I’ll make this clear from day one- nazism is fricking stupid. It doesn’t help conservatism when people see this sort of crud. Regardless, what the UK has done here is reprehensible. I know that the United Kingdom has never been as free as the US, but if this is where the bar is set, then they might as well go ahead and turn in their “world superpower” status. If you can’t take a joke, even a really dumb one, then something is wrong. Fans of free speech over in Europe really should be thinking about moving to the U.S., because we need all the pro-first amendment voices we can get, and Europe looks to be a lost cause at this point.
  9. Sometimes this is for the best. You know, I always thought that being in a relationship with a beautiful girl was my ultimate goal, too- until I actually managed to get close to a few of them. I found them to be shallow, money-hungry shysters who dated dudes to get quick and easy cash, and nothing more. I know not all girls are like this, but I count being single as a blessing after what I saw and heard when I was hanging around the “popular” girls in high school. Remember, you can be a happy bachelor. If women choose not to pursue you, it’s their loss, and when they find themselves growing into old maids all alone, they’ll regret wasting large portions of their life chasing after the Tom Cruise-types and not settling down with a guy such as yourself when they had the chance. Not trying to be spiteful, but they’ll miss you a lot more when they grow old then you will them. Sometimes, too, there are women who realize that looks aren’t everything as they grow older. Perhaps you’ll meet someone you love later in life, who knows. I think, too that this has more to do with dating in general than with being “unattractive”. Unfortunately, in this post-feminism society, we men are objected to a whole lot more objectification than our grandfathers and fathers were. Women don’t need to be married to live fulfilling lives, which is a good thing, but it has the unfortunate side effect of meaning that fewer and fewer women will settle for an “average joe”. It’s a fact of the world we live in, and we all just need to learn how to cope.
  10. Drive both and go with what makes you happy. If you’re a bike guy, you’ll never be happy stuck in a “cage”. If you’re not a bike guy, bikes tend to be frightening and not worth the hassle. Give em both a try, and if you can, try a variety of each-try a sport bike, a tourer, a scrambler, and a cruiser. Try a regular sedan, a sports coupe, a pickup, an SUV, and maybe even try a classic (pre-90s) car. You might be surprised what you find attractive if you open up your options. This is the best way I know of to make sure you get exactly what you want. Look,at what you can afford, and try it all out. Then make your decision based on economic and emotional factors.
  11. Climate-wise, it’s too cold most of the year for my tastes. Mountains there are beautiful, but then again, the Colorado Rockies are close enough to the experience for it to not be worth the trek for me. In terms of Politics/Society, they are way too liberal for me. I’m a conservative nationalist, and a proud Deplorable. No thank you to national healthcare and penalties for “misgendering”someone. So yeah, Canada isn’t where I want to be. TBH, I see it as just a colder version of the American Midwest with more French speakers and worse Politics. My home state of Kansas is much more to my tastes. However, the people there are nice and, as I said earlier, some of the natural landmarks are beautiful. So it’s not a total loss.
  12. 1. The quality of MLP has gotten dramatically better over the past 3 seasons. 2. Adding Starlight Glimmer to the cast was a great idea. 3. Th United States is best country, and Kansas is best state. 4. Converting most forms of transport to electric power will be worse for the environment than using internal combustion engines. 5. The world is a better place today than it was 30, 50, or 100 years ago. We have unique new issues, but we're better off.
  13. GO CHIEFS!!! Also, love for the Rams and the Bills. Actively rooting against Steelers and Patriots.
  14. Retail is probably my least favorite environment, and I can tell you for sure the place I would LEAST want to work in is a “Buy Here Oay Here” used car dealership, especially in a part of town where there is destitution, which seems to be the locales that these sorts of shady places set themselves up. I worked in an auto mall in a rural area firm2 months this last summer- it was a terrible experience. I was once told by my manager that I would likely be on the chopping block if I didn’t sell a $50k pickup truck to a man who wanted to make his payments out of his disability assistance check. Mind you, this man’s wife was unemployed and they had 4 elementary school aged kids. They couldn’t afford the truck, it would be getting repo’d in a couple of months, and the man would never be able to get credit ever again. I couldn’t do that to this dude, so I quit before they could fire me. Get ready for the really screwed up part- he couldn’t get approved for credit on the $7500 decade old pickup he came in to look at, but Dodge Ram was running a special and allowing high credit risks to buy new trucks over $45k with poor or no credit scores and $249 a month for something like 12 years. That should be criminal, every single one of those trucks is going to end up getting repossessed. A “Buy Here Pay Here”place in the ghetto would be even worse. Every single customer would be that guy trying to buy on minimum wage/unemployment checks, but instead of nice, shiny new cars with warranties, you’d be selling shined up junkers that will probably have a catastrophic failure within a few years of sale, and doing so at highway robbery prices. JUST PLEASE NO.
  15. I’m sober when I’m drunk. i.e I’m not drunk because of religious choices, and therefore I’m the one who has to drive my drunk friends home. Being a designated driver can be one of two things- mentally scarring or hilarious. Luckily, my friends tend to just get goofy when they are drunk, and not violent, so usually it’s fun to babysit them.
  16. Merry Christmas & Happy Hearthswarming, everypony!

  17. Being a religious individual, I’m not afraid of death at all. I know where I’m going when I die, and since I believe in a redemptive God who covers my sin, it doesn’t matter how many times I screw up along the way, he’ll accept me for who I am. I hope that I don’t grow old and feeble, and I’m doing what I can now to minimize the debilitating diseases that I know my family has a history with (weight problems, dementia, etc.). However, if I become weak and sick in my old age, I will take comfort in knowing that there is a reason in all things, that God will use my pain for his glory and that it is a struggle that will be rewarded. So I don’t fear death, I look forward to the afterlife being so much better than life on Earth. I really struggle to understand how those who don’t believe in anything motivate themselves to keep going on this planet, tbh. I’m convinced that this life kinda sucks. Dude, I know this isn’t a religious topic, and I don’t know what religion you’re a part of, so take this as you will. Being terrified of God’s wrath is no way to live. It won’t make you a better person, and it won’t make you more in tune with the big guy. It’ll just make you miserable. Again, I don’t know what you believe, but I believe that God overcame sin and will forgive any wrongdoing aside from blatantly slandering him with the intent of destroying his religion altogether. Outside of that, he chooses to use redemptive grace to cover our sin, no matter how heinous (trust me, I’ve done horrible things, too.). So, you’re golden. Have confidence that the God you believe in is more powerful than sin and will save you from it. Because being terrified of your own previous wrongdoings is no way to live.
  18. Stick a fork in it, it’s done! Are you going to post the results for us here?
