While I'm no stranger to lengthy headcanon's and character analysis, this is the first time I'm doing this in Video form. Love to hear thoughts on the vid, and if you have advice on how to improve presentation or my performance that would be great! Hope you all enjoy!

You lost me when you started saying that Spike is simply holding back his desire to follow through on his dragon instincts. I highly doubt that's true.

If anything, Spike's upbringing could be an ideal example of the principle of Nature vs. Nurture.

Take Dragon Quest, for example. Spike was thrilled enough at being with his own kind to the point that he simply accepted the way the teenage dragons were treating him. However, after he heard about their "raid" to steal phoenix eggs, he clearly did not want any part of it. Because he knows that such a thing is wrong. He's been taught that such a thing is wrong, while the teenage dragons clearly haven't. Their own parents likely taught them that it's their right to take what isn't theirs.

Spike doesn't act on his dragon instincts because he's holding them back, but because he has no desire to act on them whatsoever. Even if you view Secret of My Excess as an example of him finally giving into his instincts, I would simply direct you to the scene in that very episode just after he reverted back to normal. He sees one of his giant handprints in the ground and compares its size with that of his own hand. After he does this, he looks like he's just about to tear up, and is only stopped by Rarity. I think that might be one of the saddest moments Spike has ever had in the show. In that moment, he realized what giving in to his instincts would mean for him. He realized what he is and what he could be, and he doesn't want anything to do with it.

Also, I believe that Spike values his lot in life quite a bit. He is undyingly loyal to the one who hatched him, the one who feeds him, the one who gives him a place to live, and the one who has been the most consistent motherly figure he has ever known. He doesn't want anything more than to be there for her and help her achieve her goals in any way he can.

I'm guessing you didn't finish the video? I go into Spikes character where I talk about Pretty much what your bringing up, granted at the last couple minutes. Perhaps I should of paced that out a bit better.

I'll keep that in mind for future vids

Thank you for watching though!
