My favorite fanfic has always been "Our true colours" Its beautiful, It was written pretty early on though and does not fit in to the story any longer

But on topic: I like to think of Fallout: Equestria as being definite headcanon. Either through alternate universes, or direct timelines. It doesn't fit the true canon, but I'd still wish for it to.

It should be Sunny Skies all Day Long. An episode where Celestia disguises herself as a normal pony and goes out to make friends in Ponyville.

 

My Little Alicorn is good too. Celestia getting turned into a filly and all that. Would be fun to watch an actual canon episode like that.

I don't know if it's too dark or not, but I wouldn't mind seeing Past Sins by Pen_Stroke become canon. It's my favorite fanfic of all time, and I thought it was well-written.

 

However, On A Cross and Arrow could work too, and its tone seems to fit the one currently present in canon. However, romance isn't really a topic that is covered on the show a whole lot.

It's been awhile since i read a fan fic but i certainly wouldn't pick the ones that get too dark (not that their bad just too dark)

 

I'd definitely go with the more slice of life fics that stick true to the nature of the show.

There are many Slice of Life fanfics that are written to perfectly fit in to the show and they are funny too. Surely no one would mind if they became canon.

My three favorite fanfics are Asylum, cuddling the caretaker and the being brave series, i would never want to see any of these, in the actual show.

I prefer to keep the show and fan fiction separate

 

Granted there are some decent pieces of fan fiction out there, but people have a hard enough time taking the secondary materials as canon as is.
