Jackie Snack 1,498 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 I'm assuming you mean bad as in evil/bully-ish? Or badly written? Hmm... that is interesting. Never really gave it too much thought. Maybe it's because the two can work off of each other far easier? Wanna meet Jackie?Check out my fics!Artists I recommend!
~ Dr. Ocsid ~ 690 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 If you define a "bad character" as bully-ish (like Jackie said) but not being bad enough to be actually evil, you have a some who don´t go in pairs: -Discord -Trixie -Gilda -All other Griffons, apparently -Those teen dragons (Triple) -Those mean pegasi in flying class (Also triple) -Probably some others I forgot Therefore, your assumption that all bad guys come in pairs has been proven false. But you do have a point, there are a lot of bad guys who come in pairs. Probably because of group dynamics or something. And I agree with Notorious that Snips & Snails shouldn´t be counted as "bad guys". Sure, they did help a bad guy (by definition above), but themselves they are not.

Wind Chaser 4,768 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 I haven't heard of Jet Set and Upper Crust being unpopular characters, that's news to me. Usually these characters are cliché, and doubling them up usually hides their lack of chemistry with other characters or emphasizes their negative traits by showing how spineless the lackey is to the brains of the pair. Silver Spoon mindlessly follows Diamond Tiara, as Snips is usually the chief of screwing things up with Snails going along with him being a stock dolt.
Sugar Pea 2,683 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 To put out the fact that background ponies/side characters (the unimportants)have relationships as well. It gives a more realistic feeling when it comes to the connections that ponies share. ℓ٥ﻻ ﻉ√٥υ

~ Dr. Ocsid ~ 690 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 (edited) Not popular with the fanbase, not very likeable as characters. Define "popular", "fanbase" and "likeable" . Ach, maybe I should just go now. It is half past three over here and I had a night reading xkcd and writing Discord fanfiction. Can´t be good for the brain. Godnight. Or something. colt .45 259 May 30, 2015 Share May 30, 2015 My guess is for balance. In the case with Snips and Snails and Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoons they are antagonists to the CMC, of which there are three. With Film and Flam, they are antagonist to the Apple Family, of which there are four. The only example of two ganging up on one is Upper Crust and Jet Set against Rarity. As mentioned earlier, the Pegasi bullies and the teenage dragons were in gangs of three to antagonize Dash (with Fluttershy and again with Gilda) and Spike. Slips and Snails don't really bully the CMC, as much as they're just stupid. So maybe with them two half-wits getting togather trying to make a whole? Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoons are probably a pair because if it was just one it wouldn't be too effective because the CMC could easily one philly bitch in her place. colt .45 259 May 31, 2015 Share May 31, 2015 Why do people like the Sirens but hate Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon? Because the Dazzlings are drawn as "sexy" "humans", that are bad girl/bad ass rock stars, that sing catchey, pop/rock-ish music ("and you're under our spell"). And Diamond Tiara and SS are just two stuck up bitches that wouldn't associate with you in school.
Prince Firemane 309 May 31, 2015 Share May 31, 2015 Why do people like the Sirens but hate Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon? With me personally, there's a devious likability to the Sirens. Adagio is a cunning, manipulative yet surprisingly upfront leader when she wants to be. Aria, unlike many other subordinate-like characters ((like Silver Spoon)), isn't a blind follower, she has her own voice and outright challenges Adagio's authority multiple times. Sonata... well, Sonata's just too damn cute. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have no such likability. While the Sirens had a legitimate goal that they were working for, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon simply exist just to bully the CMC. Not to mention they took a level in jerkass that most of the fandom won't forgive when they made fun of Scootaloo for her lack of flying; comparable to making fun of a kid in a wheelchair.

For me I didn't like either groups. The Sirens felt like a copy and paste Sunset Shimmer with Snips and Snails which was from the movie just before, didn't make a lot of bounds and leaps to distinguish from the first villain group. Aria rarely showed her rebelling side as well though she made hints to it. It's just mean girls version 2. They just did not make me have any concern to the well being of Twilight and co. My concern lied in more on Twilight tryibg to figure out the spell so the Sirens were just in the background for me. Pastel 7,630 May 31, 2015 Share May 31, 2015 There are many unpopular characters that are alone. The writers like to create pairs of characters, and if you don't like one, you will generally don't like the other...
