colt .45 259 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 (edited) I hesitate to call all people who pull content by alternative avenues "pirates" as that implies malicious aforethought. Pre-teens aren't actively seeking to break rules when they download content online - this is the distribution method with which they have grown up, and production companies are going to have to deal with this (I realize older, actually criminally minded people are doing it, too, and yes, they are pirates). Merchandising and show production are intrinsically linked more than they have ever been. Also, MLP has an extremely age-diverse fan base. This is a very interesting subject to follow, at the very least. That's a pretty good idea. Have the show, and allow for fan-created content. An MLP block of sorts could rake in the viewership, keep the show concept going, and would definitely please the fan base. While you may be hesitant to call piracy piracy for various reasons (most of which are irreverent, pre teens should know what theft is. They probably weren't fought that it is theft by their parents, because the parents do it too. Because, you know, stealing shit is way cheaper than paying for it.) stealing is stealing and the lack of malicious intent or premeditation dose'nt change that. My guess is that it dose'nt feel like theft, unless it's your pocket being plundered. The way production companies "deal with it" is by having less employees and paying the ones they do have less. The way I happen to deal with it is by educating people about the fact that piracy has real life consequences, and that it affects peoples lives. I tend to do this by not sugarcoating it and calling it what it is, which is plain and simple theft. P.S. sorry, if any of that came across as any hostility towards you. I wasn't directing at anyone in particular, just piracy in general. (And yes, I'm guilty of it too, I try to keep it minimal.) Rogue Ruffian 72 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 I do produce creative content (I'm a writer and photographer) so I've dealt with actual and unintended piracy before. I'm also an educator, so I do talk to teens and pre-teens about the consequences of piracy. Most honestly don't realize what they're doing, and do stop when properly informed. I'm not trying to sugarcoat anything, or start an internet fight. All I was trying to say is that this is a new era, and fans, creators, and distributors (again, groups of which I am all a part) are going to have to address issues in new ways. Thank you, colt .45. I understand how difficult the subject is nowadays for everyone in the creative fields. Creators need to protect their concepts, but still want them shared and enjoyed. All people deserve quality creative works, and they should be available to all, not only those blessed enough to be able to scale a money wall. Art is a true renewable resource, and civilization cannot survive without it. Its a struggle for which we need to all work together to find a solution.
Ninja(Pinkie)Midget 180 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 As long as the show remains popular, it will be around. All you have to to is search amazon.com for mlp anything and you'll find it. This ended up being a surprise cash cow compared to what I'm sure they expected. You never know what will happen, but I think as long as the show remains popular, they will find a home for it. http://www.ninjamidget.com
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,803 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 All of this is really making me miss the HUB even more..Discovery Family has no identity, their showings are insanely basic and off nothing beyond that. It feels like a network that only cares about airing the shows and getting the check. I could be wrong on that but that network just doesn't seem very lively at all. The views potentially being down because of that network would come as no surprise to me, but that network going down and them having to switch again I think would over-complicate things. Shanks 10,816 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 This is a whole lot of panicking over something that may not even actually happen. Yes there was a re branding with the "Hub" becoming "Discovery Family" but with MLP renewed for a 6th season on "Discovery Family" I think we need to at least stay calm until season 6. It dosen't surprise me that Discovery Family isn't doing well, there is nothing even on except for MLP and a ton of old movies. If MLP jumps ship from Discovery Family there are other options, G4 is the most profitable generation since G1 because of the show and I think Hasbro is well aware of that and wants to milk that for as long as they can. 1 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Rogue Ruffian 72 June 1, 2015 Share June 1, 2015 You're right, Darth Bane. Everything should be copacetic until at least through Season 6, so any speculation is just wasting words. In truth, though, I have been wondering if Disney has any plans for a takeover - they've been vicious in their acquisitions lately (the Marvel situation is a debacle. Someone actually wrote a book on the whole thing - can't recall the name - and I heard the author give a rundown in an interview. It's a mess). Not that it keeps me up at night, but just been a curious thought.
Singe 2,111 June 2, 2015 Share June 2, 2015 Does Disney Channel even air non-Disney owned content? Disney XD does allow some non-Disney owned content. http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/doctor-who-disney-xd-david-tennant-1201473116/
ArcheoPony 76 June 2, 2015 Share June 2, 2015 The best thing Hasbro could do is have it air on Cartoon Network. I'm pretty sure that channel would welcome it and get pretty good ratings for it. Downside may be an influx of new comers to the fandom though.
Rainboom Dash 1,056 June 2, 2015 Share June 2, 2015 I kind of wish Hasbro had a system for simultaneous official new episode releases around the world - where I live it takes forever for new episodes to arrive. I think Cartoon Network could be a decent venue for the show if it were treated well, might attract more viewers.

MLP fans have always been uniquely welcoming to newcomers, and I would hate to see that change. This it, without a doubt, the best fandom around these days.

I guess it's because I haven't seen that positive outlook the fandom had a couple of years back nowadays that I see a downside. A lot of what I've seen lately has been ridiculously adamant... But I admire your optimism, hopefully if a scenario like this does happen the new additions will bring more positive attitudes.
