Do you believe ponies can go to space?

The nightmarity comic arc shows that the moon is inhabited by "shadow creatures" and has a breathable atmosphere, but it's unclear if this is exclusive to equestria's moon or not. What's more interesting is that Luna had difficulty pulling the moon down, suggesting that some force beyond the alicorn sisters is defying gravity and pulling the moon back into orbit. Mlp's version of "space" appears to go by very different laws of physics.

It sort of depends on "What is space like in the EQ universe?"  In some ways, EQ physics is like the very ancient beliefs here on Earth.  Beings raise the sun & moon, magic rituals change the seasons, etc.  As several have pointed out, the comics show the moon as having air.  The ancients did not believe a vacuum could exist.  If there is air all the way, it is a LOT easier.  (Still might need to take food & water on the trip.)

 

A writer named Lucien of Samos wrote a version of the Odyssey with them being blown to the moon by hurricane (like Dorothy to Oz).  Cyrano de Bergerac wrote the 1st "rocket to the moon" story & suggested a number of other ways to get there.  Check out Turtledove's book The Case of the Toxic Spell Dump for more ideas on how.

 

If you assume conditions are more hostile, of course it is harder.  I would suggest asking Luna for her opinion..
