Did Canterlot Exist when Celestia and Luna lived in the Castle of Two Sisters?

Why would Celestia and Luna be ruling Equestria away from Canterlot? Did Canterlot not exist back then, did they not have accomodations for them then or was there a different ruler in Canterlot back then?

canterlot is pretty much unicorn central and they probably dont want to be biased thats why they built the castle at ever free forest

 

or more likely, near the castle is the tree of harmony they are prolly guarding it

I assume that the Everfree Forest where their old castle lies was the center of the ruling back then and they ruled Equestria from there and after Luna was banished I think Celestia moved to Canterlot which away from the old castle that held the painful memories  of her sister.

 

I think Canterlot was more of a "Unicorn city" back then. I seen lot unicorns there. And I assume it came the "centre "of the Equestria after Celestia moved there.  though this is just my own observation based on my own interpretations of the evidence that I've gathered by watching the show.

The Journal of the Two Sisters book has all sorts of info on this, but unfortunately I don't own it and can't remember the details. But definitely Canterlot is older than Celestia and Luna's castle, and was populated by alicorns before the 3 tribes migrated to Equestria.

I think the journal said "hills of Canterlot" or something, so I interpreted that to mean the hills were called Canterlot and the later city was named after the hills.

My daughter has the Journal. I should read it although it messes with my head canon. Anyway I've always assumed that Canterlot was the Unicorn home city and maybe the former seat of the Unicorn king.

Canterlot was where Celly and Luna were born, and it used to be inhabited only by alicorns according to the Journal

According to the comics canterloz was build after celesta and luna wrecked the old castle and luna was banished. This can be seen in the flashbacks of the reflections arc ^^

I got the journal of two sisters saying that they both were born in canterlot hills where alicorns are living in before the 3 tribes decided to go there and look for alicorns to rule for them like Celestia and Luna!
