nathanthemoldy 16 July 22, 2015 Share July 22, 2015 This is a thread for the chapter books of the pony canon. Books such as Under a Sparkling Sea, Daring Do Double Dare, and the Daring Do books. (Eternal Flower, Marked Thief of Marapore, and Forbidden City of Clouds) Inspired by the shit tons of IDW comic threads. Since there’s no Chapter Book ones, I thought to create this thread. AlbaTross 1,586 August 8, 2015 Share August 8, 2015 Yeah, one thing I've noticed is that no one seems to talk about the novels. On the plus side, they don't seem to be criticized like other spinoff media, but I attribute it to the fact that no one seems to be discussing them at all. I have yet to actually check them out myself, largely because I've had my hoofs full collecting the show, the films and the comics, and I've recently invested in both The Elements of Harmony Guidebook and The Journal of the Two Sisters, but I've enjoyed every piece of FiM related media enough that the novels seem like the next logical step. They're also less expensive than all other pony media, aside from the Daring Do set, but that does contain three novels. The problem I've had is that not only have I heard very little about the books, but there are a number of them out now so I kind of held off. I was super stoked to find out that the older, mane six novels, are getting a box set, and so are the EQG books. The Daring Do books are also supposedly getting individual releases that work out to less than the box set, so I'll have to consider my options there. The only EQG book I want is Sunset Shimmer's Time to Shine since it's the only original story out of the four, but I might be intrigued enough to give the others a chance, if just to compare and contrast the differences with the films. The mane six set on the other hand seems like a no-brainer if I decide to check out the novels, since that's six books, all of which interest me, and the price isn't bad. I might decide to check that set out to start as I heard someone say the Sunset Shimmer book is lazily written. I'll have to wait and see about the books, but the possibility of me checking them out in the near future just went up considerably.

Because it explains much more than Polsky's episode a lot more. Here hoping we have a Daring Do episode this season.
Daring_Do 552 August 8, 2015 Share August 8, 2015 The Daring Do books made a Daring Do fan out of me. If you're anything like me, I'd say there's a reasonable chance you'll like 'em. But if it's true they're going to be releasing them individually at a cheaper price, then it'd probably be a good idea to wait. Could you tell me more? I hadn't heard about this myself. Thanks for linking it (although I myself already own the books). I was talking about what Tross said, though, about individual releases. Speaking of, I should probably quote that post if I want them to notice my reply. Yeah, one thing I've noticed is that no one seems to talk about the novels. I haven't started with the others Another book I got is the Journal, I loved the design, and it was neat knowing how Celly and Luna were before being the mares they are now. While they had lots of new elements, most of them were poorly expanded, leaving many unanswered questions Sig by Discords

Nobody cares about either both, as people stick with the ones they have. Oh, and awesome Bowser Kingdom username lmao. Yeah, I heard the others are better, but I've been caugh with stuff there and there, but I'll finish Twi's book and continue with Dashie's and Rare's books, as I bough them because those introduce a character each that I found interesting. I hadn't heard about this myself.Well, I don't know all the details, but I was browsing Amazon.ca and saw this: http://www.amazon.ca/My-Little-Pony-Daring-Marapore/dp/0316301876/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1439103137&sr=1-1&keywords=my+little+pony If all three books are to be priced the same, then it works out to $36CAD plus tax. I'm not sure what the U.S. price will be, but it seems that the Canadian price works out to less than the cost of the box set, even with the discounted price that Amazon also has. I don't really care about the chest, hollow book or figure, as I could take or leave all of the above. The main downside is that it seems that the individual re-releases will happen one at a time, and we'll have to wait for each individual re-release. I'll have to weigh my options there, but I think I'll start with the mane six books in the meantime. It's a good sign that you have positive things to say about the Daring Do books. I'm not expecting literature at an adult reading level, but I'm ok with that. All in all, it looks like waiting paid off for all of the novels. I'm assuming it will be a while yet before the newer books get a collection, but that's ok. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far. Fluttershutter 2,447 September 5, 2015 Share September 5, 2015 I always look forward to a new chapter book. G. M. Berrow really knows the world and adds lots of cool little details from the most recent episodes and even from the comics.

AlbaTross 1,586 January 15, 2016 Share January 15, 2016 I've now officially read the first four chapter books and just acquired the Friendship Through the Ages Boxed set. The EQG books are at least nice looking on the outside. I was debating skipping the novelizations and just getting Sunset Shimmer's Time to Shine, but I've been kind of intrigued by the very idea of a novelization of films that I never thought would lend themselves well to a novelization. I guess I'll find out if I like them after I read Applejack and Fluttershy's chapter books. So far I've been enjoying the regular chapter books. They were getting progressively better IMHO, though Rarity and the Curious Case of Charity is a tad too girly for my tastes, but I still enjoyed it too and I guess I should have expected that from a Rarity chapter book. For the most part I like them about as much as I like the comics, and that's a good thing.
