Jellyfish 135 July 23, 2015 Share July 23, 2015 I'm designing a new OC who is meant to be a side character as she is significant to another character but not considered one of my main OCs (though I'm really starting to like her a lot *sweats*). But she is essentially the general of an army, so of course, she has an armor. I'm hoping the armor looks okay, but I'll let you guys be the judge of that. And yes, she is meant to look manly, that's the point. She's actually my only female OC and she's probably the most manly of my OCs, haha. So, does she look good? (I think she does but I wasn't asking me)

Batbrony 16,055 July 23, 2015 Share July 23, 2015 From what I've seen of pony armor in fan art, looks pretty standard. That's not a bad thing, that's good, pony armor's hard to get right. It's tempting to want to add more, but unless it's like an Iron Man suit or something, pony armor really needs to be minimalist, especially on the limbs. The chest piece looks a bit odd since it's jutting out, but that's the only minor issue I have with it, and it even has some historical precedence. In fact, that's some advice I'll give you as well for the future if you'd like to continue to remain accurate; when I wrote about armor in my fanfiction, I looked up how traditionally horses have been armored in warfare, and there's all sorts of different pieces with their own names and everything. Here's some more pony armor for future reference. "You'll hunt me. You'll condemn me, set the dogs on me. Because that's what needs to happen. Because sometimes... cupcakes aren't good enough. Sometimes ponies deserve more. Sometimes ponies deserve to have their faith rewarded... with muffins!!!" -The Muffin Mare
IcefireInfinite 227 July 23, 2015 Share July 23, 2015 I have some thoughts about the armor she should wear: -As she is the general; she will need something that makes her stand out from other soldiers. That red horn is already pretty good.-Depending on the weapons the enemy will be using; the armor will be modeled to defend against the most faced weapon such as the Roman's armor. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_military_personal_equipment)-Various places on the body should be protected where the opponent will most likely aim to attack: -The ears -The neck -The legs-I think a good piece of flexible armor to use would be the scaled type which is not only flexible, but light. It was also used by horses it looks like. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scale_armour)-From what your character is using you could possibly use some dragonplate armor from Skyrim as a reference. (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Armor_(Skyrim)) You've already done a good job with the armor, but the kind she has on looks more ceremonial instead of functional. ----------------------- 171 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 Very unique! The contrast of the colors blend in very nice; her coat and the armor really bring out the personality that you've mentioned. Great job!
skysweep 541 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 This is great. I would say that it needs a little more razzle dazzle for a general(They are very fond of flashy insignia) but otherwise it serves its purpose. She really looks like she is ready to take the lead into battle. Dont worry about her being a she. A few weeks ago, my country appointed its first woman general. So dont put it past them to command. PoisonClaw 8,166 July 25, 2015 Share July 25, 2015 (edited) If I may offer some criticism, I have a few issues with the armor design. First are the "knee pads", for lack of a better term. They really have no reason to be there, party because they're too small to protect the pony's shins and also because they appear like they would impeded her movement rather than offer any protection. Secondly, the random piece of armor protecting the underbelly. This is a good idea actually, since most armor designed for equines in/outside of the show and in real life leave the underbelly exposed, which would be a bad idea considering that would be the most vulnerable weakspot for a pony. The problem is that the piece you've drawn is really just a random slab of armor that really should be extended more to the chest area and doesn't look like it connects to the body armor at all. Really, the entire body piece should look like a single piece of armor. I do like the face plate however, and the horn like structure jutting from it does look rather intimidating. Though a few of the pieces don't look like they properly connect, like with the gem in the center just barely connected to the sides of the chest. I'm sorry if this is too much, I just really like the idea of ponies in armor.
