A truly random forum section?

A lounge exists, yea. But it does not seem that it is 100% for randomness, as it needs to 'provoke discussion'. There is very little conversations actually had at this rate. Ironically this might actually be because the mods heavy-handed way that they lock forums that 'do not create conversations'.

4Chan is a more social place this, which is kinda sad.

Any thoughts about that? (Also I am not suggesting anything in a chatroom sort of style.)

The reason we put up boundaries for such topics from the Forum Lounge is not of a matter of little potential to spark discussion, but so that we can keep an eye on those who break the rules. You may never know that somebody will ignore the rules, post NSFW content and post it on a random thread as an excuse to do whatever they want. And not just that, but there are many people who get turned off quickly by NSFW content due to their graphic nature, as well as its potential to spark needless arguments. Same applies for many other rules, especially the L&T rule. Oh, and if there were a topic where you can do whatever you want, it also has potential for it to be spammed with poor quality posts to the point where not even moderators could keep up with what's going on, or could probably slow down Internet traffic.

I hope anything I explained makes sense. :)

I am part of a different forum that has an area like this. Mostly the only topics that go in there are just random spam topics. I don't think that that should be added to this forum; but that is just my personal opinion. I don't like seeing spam topics popping up everywhere.

This is a WIP.

Why are you still looking at this?

Seriously. You should have looked away by now.

Congratulations. You have read the 4th line.

I can't believe you are still here. *sighs and walks away*

mlpforums.com prizes itself in being unique in many ways. We often hear things like, make this place a little like x forum I love.

My only reply to this line of thinking is this:

"If I want to visit Kildare I won't go to Juneau."

General Chat Thread seems up your alley. Randomness abounds!

He's trying to say that he doesn't want to make the MLP forums like every other forums; that he wants it to be unique.

I'll translate it for you.

Here, in MLP Forums, we try to give our userbase the best possible experience, but we want that experience to be unique. If we made like other forums, what would make us different from those forums that you use as an example of places with, let's say, a random spam section? Only the name. Thus the "If I want to visit Kildare I won't go to Juneau." metaphor.

About the Forum Lounge, I like how it is structured right now. It offers a place to make nearly any kind of topic(as long as it meets the rules), and it is moderated just about enought to make those "random" topics to actually have a reason to exist. If a spammy section was added, its purpose would be defeated, because for each, let's say, shipping hype thread, there will be 500 topics of a word being repeated again and again, which is basically pure spam, and inside those 500 topics it may be a topic that actually goes against the rules, and the big spam would make finding it more difficult that it should.

General Chat Thread is basically a place where you can be a bit more random (as long as the global rules are met, of course), so if you want to be a bit more random, that's the best place to post!

My face when I get the reference.

But did you understood now what Jeric meant? I quote you to my previous post just in case.

If you have more questions, please ask them. If you don't, I will consider this as resolved.
