PnyBeast 12 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 I am new here, but I have always had this ambition. Namely, to put together some kind of actual band that makes and records pony-related covers and songs in a death metal style. Or something similar. I am entirely aware that the usual type of music for pony-related media is electronic and falls into some kind of -step way, but I always wanted to figure out how to translate Smile Smile Smile into a sick breakdown. That said, and assuming this won't go very far, how does this sound to people? And/or would anyone be interested?
Frith is Magick 1,471 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 The first question is whether you have the experience and background to get this thing running. I can't speak for the whole fandom, but as a fan of Stallionslaughter, I have to say that some good pony metal would not go unappreciated. As a listener, I say go for it. Either make this music or network with the people who have the skills you need, ither way, pony metal is 100% a good idea. 1 Keep flyin'
PnyBeast 12 September 24, 2015 Author Share September 24, 2015 I have limited experience with the process behind recording and mixing audio. I did some dabbling in it in high school, and have a few audio mixing programs I've used on little side projects. I've contributed some entrance music remixes with samples to aspiring pro wrestlers and such, but nothing professional. I also have very limited experience in guitar and drums, though I have no real background in being in a band beyond the few examples I've given.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,731 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 Honestly, I say go for it. Music is music, and really anything can be remixed into any genre. Plus, I love metal as it is so it would be interesting to hear. :3 I think it is a good idea and if it is something you would enjoy doing, I'd say go for it. ^__^ Pony music is not exclusive to electronic and dubstep.
Rawzy 1,302 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 There's already a bunch of awesome MLP metal out there. For instance... This next one is MLP Death Metal... I listen to mlp metal daily and also stuff from other bands. Being a drummer I strive to learn how to play these songs and I've always wanted to make my own melodic metal version of some of my favourite mlp songs. 5 Think For Yourself. Be Yourself. sweetolebob18 728 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 As some one once said "There are a lot more bands that suck than songs that suck" Still, I'd be willing to at least listen.
RattPitt 172 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 I've heard a lot of pony metal songs (from Stallionslaughter, The L-Train, and Secret Metal, just to name a few.) I'm not saying that I'm discouraging it. I'm always willing to hear more pony metal. If you want to do it, do it. And if you ever need a lyrics writer, I'm willing to help for pretty much any metal subgenre. If you're interested, PM me.
SasQ 1,379 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 There were some early attempts already Unfortunately, they didn't get much attention, judging by the number of likes. Too bad :/ We welcome back the southern birds,So their families can GRRRROOOOWL! So yeah, if you feel like it, then go for it. Definitely more variety in pony music is needed. Because now it's mostly electronic, particularly Dubstep, with rare exceptions for other genres. I, for one, hope for some pony jazz, after "Rarity Investigates", because that type of complex harmony is one I enjoy the most. 2 My best posts list Recent post: Language Exchange
Denim&Venöm 19,288 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 There are a few good ones out there. Prince Whatever seems to be the scene leader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8kXxd_MCAI I'd actually recommend against going the death metal route. That seems like the go to answer for bands trying to take something not typically viewed as heavy, and making death metal out of it so it would seem brutal. And half the time it's done as off beat humor. "Death metal about ponies? It has to be a joke right?" Death metal just isn't very distinctive anymore. It seems like everything has a death metal cover. These days, people look deeper into songs. They're paying attention to the more technical aspects. Low tuning, complex rhythms & harmonies, odd time signatures (or lack thereoff). Progressive metal is what's grabbed the worlds attention. Dream Theater, Tool, Symphony X, Meshuggah, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastadon, Periphery. These are the guys new bands and artists are starting to emulate. A progressive metal song whose very song structures somehow tie into MLP, the show or it's original music? Now that would turn some heads. The only other genre I'd recommend is power metal. Old school power metal is already about tales of dragons, wizards, epic quests and grandiose battles. That's MLP in a nutshell. A bombastic single in the vein of Sabaton, Hammerfall, Helloween or Dragonforce would be all too fitting. The important thing is, don't make a good MLP song. Make a good metal song. If non-bronies start headbanging to it, then you'll be well on yoru way to spearheading the "Brony Metal" subgenre.

Not really, there's a YouTube channel called "German Bronies", they have all different genre's of pony music, from 8-bit songs to death metal. 1 Think For Yourself. Be Yourself. PnyBeast 12 September 24, 2015 Author Share September 24, 2015 Yeah, that kind of thing. I've seen some of these groups before, my ideal would be to go to a con or something and play there. Ideally. But something to the effect of progression isn't out of things.

Being a drummer I strive to learn how to play these songs and I've always wanted to make my own melodic metal version of some of my favourite mlp songs. Not sure if you and I have already spoken about this, but...Draconequus has been looking for a full time drummer for quite a while. Is this something you might have the ability and desire to do? We do a mix of original material, brony fandom covers, MLP show/movie song covers, and ponified parodies of mainstream bands like Metallica. Sectus 246 October 5, 2015 Share October 5, 2015 I would typically have an aversion to the idea mainly because it involves further saturating outside subjects - which tends to irritate outsiders. Not saying it is a bad idea, just do so with caution. The primary reason people become irritated with MLP fans is due to the fact that they associate MLP with literally everything.
