critique wanted I really need help on making an OC

Hello!

 

So lately, I've been thinking on how to really make an interesting Unicorn OC.

But the thing is I'm having trouble with everything. I want to make the Unicorn sorta resemble me if possible and be original and not mistaken for someone else.

I used PonyMaker to make a design but I'd easily change it if it didn't fit with the character.

But the thing is that it seems everything has to somehow piece together, the cutie mark, the personality, the backstory and the name. I can provide details if needed to help further elaborate I believe and I think I can come off with at least a start to his personality or his interests.

           , is a pony of many interests. He is quiet and reserved and always has thoughts pacing through his head.

He spends a lot of time alone, trying to be creative or express himself. He loves music but isn't good at any instruments and is simply a sucker for art. He sketches everyday trying to become better and make his own style. He likes to be kind to others even when they are hostile or mean to him. He can come off strange and weird to others when socializing and is an introvert. He likes to learn things that help him, and interest him like his natural ability to use magic. He finds it hard to focus on one thing, but when he does it usually comes out moderately good or even amazing.

 

(I'm hitting a writers block because of distractions at the moment, but please let me know if there's something that could help me or you figure out what to do. I've been really discouraged to make an OC as I worry of making a character with little depth or a mary sue.)

So I like where you are headed with this. I can't tell you what to do with you'r creation, but I can give you some advice. This is my OC: https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/blaze-maccloud-r8882  His name is Blaze MacCloud. Your OCs name doesn't have to tie into all aspects of him. Mine is named Blaze because of the color of his name. That's it. MacCloud because I thought it was funny (MacLoud... MacCloud... get it?). With the cutie mark, don't overthink it. It is important that fits them, not that is is super original and cool looking. My OCs mark is just some music notes, with a little color so it doesn't look like I completely copied anyone. As for backstory, build off of your OCs personality. What happened in their past that helped them develop their personality. Thats all the useful advice I can think of right now. Oh, one more. Try not to  make a Mary Sue (look it up). Keep up the good work!

Thanks, I will more than likely be working on this for awhile, so I will try to follow your words. Your OC is good too, it's way further than I've ever gotten, and yes I'll try my best not make a mary sure like Princess Shadowshine Platinum Silversoul.

Thanks, I kind of wanted it to be but then again I don't know if it would tie in with who he is, I originally wanted him to somehow earn his cutie mark by being involved with the moon, but that's Luna's role

Okay, so I've brewed up some more information to add to him, but I still feel like he needs depth and work, a cutie mark, and a name still. I used the OC layout on the forums to piece some of him together, but I'm mostly waiting for feedback on what I should/could do.
