The older fans around these parts might recall a cartoon series that aired back in the eighties called

that, much like the G1 MLP show, was geared towards girls and also spawned a line of dolls based on the characters.  The show centered around an all-girl group of pop stars and the drama that surrounded their career.  It also featured a rival band of bad girls bent on upstaging them.  

 

Kinda remind you of Rainbow Rocks maybe?  

 

Well, it seems that Jem & the Holograms is the latest series to be given a modern-day makeover by Hasbro.  The official trailer was just recently released:

 

 

It seems that this one is going to be a live-action movie.  But what could this mean for the future?  Just a coincidence or yet another sign that MLP is coming to an end?  With a new "girly" franchise on the horizon, could a new Jem cartoon and toyline be in the works to take their place?
