gaming TF2 soldier..... wait what?

What is the point of the tf2 soldier? Last time I remembered tf2 was a game about specialty classes, like if you wanted a big health class you would go for heavy or if you wanted to do a lot of damage you would go for demo, however, soldier is pretty much just a jack-of-all trades class with no strengths or weaknesses, no uniqueness to him whatsoever........ I think tf2 is pretty much better without him.

Thoughts anyone?

I think the soldier is meant for players who either don't know what style they want to play, of players who aren't very good at specific game play styles. Some players just aren't good at specific things and want a "jack of all trades" class to play as.

That's the thing though, in tf2 every other class has a specific role to play while the soldier is just some regular class. It feels like just some go to class for noob players instead of having skilled players who can pick a specialty class they are good with.

The soldier's rocket launcher is his specialty. He can use it to make rocket jumps and also dole out direct splash damage instead of the angling/timing of the demo's splash damage. The soldier also has the second highest health in the game making him a tank and giving another suitable partner for the medic to heal.

It's the pyro that seems to lack a function in the team mostly. He can be used to ambush targets behind the line but the spy does a better job of it.

there's a perfectly good tf2 thread you could've posted this in

it's dying and needs the attention tyvm

anyway, i don't hate soldier (though i think he could do with a lot of nerfs)

what i DO hate is soldier mains, they'll whine to you about how their class is the most mechanically challenging class in the game and throw a fit when you give them a reality check

being a great utility class and a fun-as-hell combat class

he's also better at flanking than the spy, if you're not using the phlog or backburner you're just not doing it right

I guess you can say he is a "jack-of-all-trades" but I haven't played him enough to figure him out all the way. I stay with the medic/engie.

Are you referring to like a general thread?

Even if his rocket launcher can do that, he's still a Jack class, other tf2 classes have specific roles while the soldier has none, no use in having him besides training.

I think Soldier is for beginners, or maybe not. With the rockets you can stay out of danger, like the sniper, but when it to close, he has a shotgun. It depends on how you use him. The rocket jump might be used to get out of danger

Really? I found Heavy the easiest to play when I first tried TF2.
