Mlp bringing it back to its roots for season 6?

And by roots, I mean the Tree of Harmony. We've gone 5 years without knowing much of anything about its lore, which is pretty crazy, when you think abut it. We've been given world building throughout Equestria, but nothing on what started the series' lore- the ToH. (Aside from the weapons it grew to allow special ponies to protect Equestria)

But let's speculate, for now, and just hope season 6 brring much needed lore of the tree.

So, it's pretty clear the ToH is sentient, and has the power of 1: literally growing a powerful weapon that, when used in unison, can defend a nation, 2: can transfer the power of those weapons to the ponies who represent the spirits of its elements, even when its physical "fruit" is back in the tree's posession, 3: is sentient, in order to act independently, as if through its own agenda and 4: somehow has precognition, in order to grow a powerful defense mechanism to protect ponies, in order to have the cutie marks of 3 rulers on its trunk, before they even learn of it, themselves, in order to have the right power at the ready, and transferred to Twi and friends, when the right threat calls for it (rainbow power through the ToH's locked box), and in order to have a castle at the ready for the pony whose cutie mark is on its trunk.

I'm even starting to wonder if the precognitive power that Sunbutt showed in "Twilight's kingdom", to forsee Tirek coming was, in actuality, the Tree's power transmitted to her- a former bearer of its elemental fruits. Hmmmm.

But what do you guys think? Tree of Harmony lore and abilities finally explained in season 6? (Why doesn't it have Cadance's cutie mark on it, if she was meant to be a ruling power?)

It would certainly be an interesting concept for S6,. Allot of the old lore of Equestria is sort of brushed over in the last 5 seasons, with just the minimal amount of information to help with the current / ongoing story line.

As for the ToH itself, it appears as a common theme among fantasy stories. Two that jump to mind quickly are the 'Tree of souls' in Avatar, and the Ents from Tolkins Middle earth.

As for Cadance, there is the potential for a double episode to explain who she really is, and where she is from. Looking back over the series she is actually mentioned very little. But her name does have the potential for a massive story-line.

A cadence is the closing passage of a piece of music.

well, if they're planning to wrap things up with the show after the movid (and they might), then that doesn't leave them much of a window to hit us with all the facts and lore on the Tree. And while it may b commonly glossed over in other fiction works, Mlp has proven to go against the staus quo with thinvs of hat nature

I actually think they'll leave the tree of harmony's backstory for the movie; that's where I figure they'll delve into it.
Not sure what we'll get for Season 6, though I'm expecting the backstory for the alicorn race and what happened to them to pop up.

Well, the Tree of Harmony is located in the Everfree Forest outside of Ponyville. Cadance rules the Crystal Empire. She never was really meant to rule in Canterlot or Ponyville. Twilight however, is connected to the elements because of her friends and the fact that her cutie mark matches the symbol on the tree of harmony, and that it is the shape of one of the elements.

it has a pretty meaty bit of lore, actually

But still leaves manh questions and lore of the ToH unanswered

I think that's mainly because they probably HAVEN'T figured out the lore yet XD

They have a habit of playing things fast and lose and only coming up with the full backstory for things later on.

I would at least hope LF left the writers with some idea of what backstory she had for the ToF, and they're just need the right time to hit us with it. But as I sait, time's winding down to make it happen, if the movie date is, in fact, the end

Personally, I think the tree of harmony's point was the same as Starswirl the bearded's spell from magical mystery cure: Blatantly a story mechanic.

They wanted to get rid of the EOH due to them being an instant win condition, and so they asked themselves "How do we do that? They can't be destroyed" and came up with the tree.

I don't think they have much of an idea behind it besides that it allowed them to accomplish a goal like how larson even admitted the starswirl spell was a cheap patch to make the alicornization work since his first plot got scrapped and cut.

That's assuming the Tree was in her plans to begin with.

I like the idea of exploring the lore behind the tree, but I'd love it if instead of just the regular history, we saw things from the Anti-Tree of Harmony's POV, or through it's avatar. I think there should be a opposite to the Tree, get the yin-yang thing going on.

A tree of disharmony then?

wouldn't the antithesis of the ToH be Discord, the embodiment of chaos? He already tried to choke the tree with weeds/ plunderseeds once before....

That seemed to have been the initial idea under faust, but Since he's been redeemed They're trying to avoid the concept that "chaos=Disharmony" and instead portray Disharmony as its own thing instead.

Its something of a retcon since his name, "DISCORD" basically means disharmony, but its what they're going for with the most recent comic noting that Chaos's opposite is ORDER and neither is good or evil except when used Improperly. (They compared Chaos and Order to Light and dark for celestia and luna for that).

Besides, trying to destroy the tree of harmony doesn't explicitly make one the antithesis to the tree of harmony, it just shows that you're a villain. Nightmare moon tried to destroy the elements of harmony after all and that doesn't explicitly make her the antithesis of harmony.

but harmony is synonymous with order, so Discord would still be the antithesis of the Tree, would he not?

not true, you can have order without having harmony; A tyranny is an example of their being order without harmony. Everything is forced into the ideology of one person's views, but there's still strict order.

harmony is more being in tune with each others thoughts and viewpoints and actions. You can have a slightly chaotic situation with harmony, like how the mane six are in harmony with each other but their actions (like pinkie pie's) can still appear chaotic and impromptu.

much as I hate to admit it, yo do make a good point....so, then who or what do you think we might see act as a true force of disharmony, rather than disorder, to te Tree, if not Discord?

Or would you just want lore in general on the Tree, without its polar opposite being revealed?
