I wanted to construct this thread to discuss a fan made edit that was done two years back, that tries to recreate as much of the original unaltered Star Wars trilogy as much as possible. It was a huge success and unfortunately you cannot torrent these anywhere because they were hosted via fragmented MKV files or other formats from a VPN. It's important to bring a topic like this up because of Lucas and how he has been constantly damaging his movies. They used to be his movies and he has a legal right to change them, but he is also erasing history and something people love and adore. I support this fan made edit that the team made not even a cent on.

I have a vague memory of Disney saying they will be releasing the original, unaltered trilogy at some point soon. Now that they have full control over it and Lucas has no say in the matter. But that might be a messed up memory.

I hope that this is true. I wouldn't mind seeing the original trilogy as they were released. I mean the special edition cut a bit out, and ruined a bit.

Lucas has been a baby for years. Congress doesn't have the original film negatives even though it's a registered movie at the library of congress. Lucas also claims he altered the negatives of the original trilogy.. Whether or not this is true, no one knows.

I like the despecialized edition, even though it's just 720p it looks really great. I'm amazed how they managed to bump up the quality in so many of the scenes. I'm still waiting for them to fix episode V and VI.

The despecialized editions of the original trilogy do exist right? IF I recall they were done by a group of fans and odne incredibly well. I may have to give these a look, since I really want to watch the original trilogy without the Lucas tampering. For the record, I have not watched the original trilogy at this point at all, so I want to see them in their original glory.

It's not entirely 100% pure. It's the best existing fan edit that had thousands of hours poured into it. They went as far to use a digitally scanned theatrical 35mm to get around many special edition scenes. But most of the video sources come from the 2011 blu ray release with a close to accurate theatrical color correction.
