gaming Favorite Dragonball Z Fighting Game

I have been playing a good amount of DragonBall Xenoverse lately and while the fighting system is rather simplistic, I am still enjoying the game. This makes me think about all of the many, many DBZ fighting games. The first I ever played was Dragonball Z Budokai for the PS2 and I was hooked on the fighting games for the series.

With so many to choose from, dating all the way back to the SNES, what is YOUR personal favorite or favorites from the fighting games?

My personal favorites are Budokai 3 and Tenkaichi 2. :3 I have fond memories of both of those games.

Budokai 3 and Budokai Tenkaichi 3 were both the best and most refined for both series imo. And the original Budokai is one of my faves purely for the story mode

I still need to get Xenoverse, I enjoyed the demo of it and I liked a lot of the things it does in regards to its campaign

Tenkaichi 2 and 3. No contest. The best of the best.

Budokai games are too limiting and they don't feel as epic as Tenkaichi (big open arenas, excellent destruction, no capsule crap for moves, if you transform into ss3 from regular it should feel as in the anime and you should have immediate access to the moves that the form has in the anime, etc)

I was too tired while making this so I fussed up a lot of frames. Will fix if I can be bothered.

In my opinion, either Hyper Dimension or Supersonic Warriors.

Hyper Dimension's probably the most competent/well-designed fighting game of the earlier era of Dragon Ball Z games.  Cool mechanics, lots of risk vs reward the player has to consider, and the pixel art in that game is absolutely gorgeous.  I'm not crazy about the music though.

Supersonic Warriors is just super-inventive.  Nice fast-paced, flight-centric, unorthodox fighting game.  Love it.  I didn't like the second one as much, but it was good too.

I remember loving the first Budokai but haven't played it in so long I couldn't tell you much. Since then Raging Blast 2 has been my shtick, if I've even played at all. Ultimate Tenkaichi lasted about ten minutes before I got bored. Not sure if I wanna play Xenoverse or not.

I generally don't like fighting games at all, but I thought Budokai 3 was very well designed. I think that says something.

:okiedokielokie: Everybody loves fighting games.

Most people can find at least one fighting game they can get into though whether it's Super Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat or just one of the DBZ games.

I don't remember which exactly but it was either Tenkaichi 2 or 3. I wasn't a huge fan of the First Budokai's I played to be honest, think it was a little too... "stiff" for me. I don't really think Tenkaichi was amazing as far as fighting game mechanics go but it did have that dbz feel to it with the wide arenas, destructable arenas and whatnot. All the flying around the stage really sold it for me. Plus it had those little like specials that change depending on the characters like the "full power" thing that would immediately max your ki or something like that and other things like temporary stat boosts, solar flare and an instant transmission kinda thing.

Dragonball Z Budokai 3 has to be my favorite! Probally just because of the memories I have playing it with my friends and kicking their butts! The DBZ fighting games kinda fell off awhile ago but they are making them real good quality again and I hope that continues now that DBZ Super is a thing!

In general I really enjoyed Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Xenoverse.

Xenoverse has the added bonus of having story, and being able to create your own characters. However, I was really irritated by two things. First: How easy it was to get stuck going through the fights in one single way. Like once I unlocked Super Saiyan/Super Saiyan 2 for my character, it would just be a match of getting her to that point and then spamming the blast attacks. Second: One that most people won't care about but I will. Although they let us create women characters, they completely ignored that in dialogue. If it was just a matter of laziness, they could have easily made the dialogue gender-neutral, but no, they made it all masculine and then left it that way regardless of whether you're character is a man or a woman. I don't take too kindly to that, even though this game was a blast otherwise. It just says "Oh you're a woman, you don't matter to us as much as our fans who are men". >.>

I played the original Budokai games but only ever bought the original for the PS2 (I rented the other two). I was thinking of buying the HD collection on the PS3, but it wasn't available digitally and probably wouldn't be easy to find. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 turned out to be my favorite of them anyway.
