Lithophila 291 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 (edited) Like imagine some really angry people hating what the new gen of users do with their life. Usually massive pool of information is what has taken over people's daily life in the last 10 years from now on. Like the question is... how much interest does one have for its own practical life for example, or practical interaction. How much attention does one do by chatting and gaining knowledge. But thats it. They cluster your head, but sucking up knowledge isnt the same as actually having any use of it. So some guys are all like... We need to stop this. Do you believe maybe in the future that terrorists may blow up servers world wide or something to remove internet from people's daily lives. Just kinda wondering your views on it? El Duderino 879 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 The point of terrorism is to strike fear into the public. Taking out the some peoples internet will just upset people, not scare them. Besides, the internet is far more useful on than off, even for terrorists. Also, if some servers were bombed, it wouldn't take long to re-build them. Internet is money, and if there is money on the line, companies or even governments won't let it stay offline long. 2 My ponysona/OC: https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/treble-r8882 Check out my Soundcloud too: https://soundcloud.com/colton-paul-crawford DeviantArt: http://scottish-bastard.deviantart.com/
Scrubbed user 3,416 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 Then how will groups like ISIS upload really bad videos in an attempt to recruit people?
Malinter 3,064 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 The internet is huge. I doubt a single organisation could even make a scratch on it, let alone shut it down. There's also the fact that there are internet's within the internet and these are usually closed and heavily incripted which makes them both hard to locate and destroy. And of course, most important data can be kept as back-ups on networks not connected to the internet. They'd just reupload it to new servers. Well it depends. I mean there do exist Eco-terrorism groups out there. You can say if you have played Final Fantasy 7 that you technically are in one in the beginning. I guess it wouldn't really scare people as you say. Or well people who have net addiction does. But in general i believe it does scare server owners etc : 3 Edited January 16, 2016 by Lithophila
simba86 1,541 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 i think it would be hard to take down the ENTIRE internet, and even if they did it probably wouldn't take long to get it back up. if they took out our banking and stuff like that it would hurt but if they just took out facebook and social media i think we would live 1 It's better to die on your feet than to live on your knees! HereComesTom 2,268 January 16, 2016 Share January 16, 2016 An attack on the internet would be an attack on everyone---if someone wanted to attack anyone (there are reasons for that ranging from feeling screwed by the community to extremists just wanting to prove they can), then they might try it. But as many posters have said, it couldn't be permanent. It would have a temporary economic effect, but eventually connections would be re-established or re-routed, and then things would be back to normal, and in fact I think a post-attack Internet would be made more robust to attacks after being rebuilt, since the engineers setting it up would learn from their mistakes and expect someone to try it again. All of what I've said is assuming we're talking about physically destroying servers; if we're talking about a computer virus---those things can be nasty, and the most sophisticated ones have been known to actually cause permanent physical damage to computers. (I know it sounds weird to say software can do physical damage to hardware, but if that software tricks the hardware into overheating and shutting off cooling systems, it can actually happen.) So I'd be more worried about the effects of a hard-to-find computer virus than I would be about anyone physically destroying servers. Help the main six stop the Weather Factory Meltdown!
