gaming Is it illegal to play region locked game, and what about PC games?

Basically if i decided to buy Spyro 1,2 or 3 from the american version on PS1 from Ebay, considering the framerate is better, i can basically if i have modded the PS1 i believe. But i dont think it is considered legal. But what about for example PC games? I dont think those are region locked, and if they are they would likely give a message or something if i played from a PC bought in Europe or something.

 

But i am just curious to your opinion on it?

With the PS1 being as old as it is now, even it would of been deemed illegal it will not anymore. Of course, you'll have to bypass the system's region lock first and make it region-free. Heck, you can even download PS1 games online and emulate them on a PC if you wanted to, so I don't think it'll make much difference if you get the games to work on your console.

Some PC games are region locked, for example I know that on Steam you can only buy some games from certain countries. If you mean by digital download, then the game will not care where the PC was from and only where it currently is. For physical copies then the disc player may possibly be region locked, but you can always switch it out for another such as one you know is region-free.

Playing region locked games, as far as I know, is completely legal. Unless I have missed something. Modding a PS1, if this was the PS1's hayday, then maybe that wouldn't be the best idea. Now though? I don't think it is an issue.

I doubt it. Even if it is, I highly doubt Sony lawyers will be looking for blood over someone bypassing a region blocked game on the ps1.

its legal but the locks prevent some online content to not work as effectively or not at all so overall diminish the game for for some players
