"How'd you sleep?" asked Lead as he poured himself his coffee. "Not that I'm mad, but how come you ended up in my bed?"

Lead put two pieces of toast on one plate and two pieces on another, then set the plates down on opposite sides of the kitchen table. He wasn't used to making food for than himself.

Golden rubbed her left hoof with her right."I umm... had a nightmare..." she said sheepishly "so I came to you but I didn't want to wake you so I just thought I'd sleep next to you for the night. I'm sorry... " she said rubbing the area underneath her eyes to catch any tears

"Don't worry about it, it's alright," Lead put his hoof around Golden. "Now, do you want butter on your toast? Maybe some coffee or orange juice?"

It only made Lead happier that Golden had come to him when she was scared. It showed that she at least thought Lead could protect her, and he would make sure that he did.

"Coffee please..." Golden said "with no sugar... if it's okay..." she looked up at Lead and gave him a nervous smile "thank-you..." Golden felt like somehow she had to make up to Lead for sleeping in his bed without permission perhaps she should write a story to please him

Lead poured Golden her coffee as she had requested and set it next to her toast.

"Alright, kiddo, I have to get to work soon. I've got a big case on my desk, and it's going to take a lot of work," Lead said as he put on his tie.

He then quickly ate his toast and finished his coffee.

"Alright thanks again..." Golden said lightly sipping her coffee she then enveloped the typewriter in magic and began to type. the story she wrote was about a mare who set off on an adventure to find the missing temple of crater canyon which was supposedly holding priceless treasures.

@@The Pixelated Pony,

As he had requested yesterday, the coroner's report was waiting for Lead on his desk. The cause of death was a gunshot wound from a .45 caliber pistol, and the car was registered as belonging to one H.F. Saddlefield. It was Lead's hunch that it was him who killed the mare.

Golden continued to type until the ink ribbon ran out she was halfway through the conclusion and was left with a dilemma. There obviously wouldn't be any ribbons in the house so she could either Steal a ribbon, Take money and buy a ribbon or finish the story on her own. she sat there and thought for a while.

@@The Pixelated Pony,

Lead decided to pay a visit to the owner of the car to see if he could get anything from him. While he was on the way, Lead figured he might as well check up on Golden. He made a slight detour to his house, and came in to see Golden at her typewriter.

"Hey, kiddo, I was on the way to a suspect's house, and I figured I should swing by to see if you needed anything."

Golden covered up the story and then looked at Lead. "uhh yeah some more ink ribbons if you don't mind." Golden said. "this one just ran dry and I can't use the Typewriter without one " Golden smiled and carefuly hid the story behind herself whilst the two talked

"Ink ribbons, got it. Alright, I can't dawdle for too long, so I'll see you soon. Bye," said Lead as he left.

Although getting to the suspect took top priority, Lead went to the store and picked up a few ink ribbons first. After that, he made haste to his destination. He arrived at a small, one story house in a fairly unremarkable neighborhood.

Lead knocked on the door and an earth pony with a blue coat, orange mane, and square glasses opened it, "Who's there?"

"Detective Hot Lead, police," he answered.

Golden watched Lead leave before lying on her back and reading through her latest story. she was worried about how much the main character got into trouble. traps, natives,  back stabbers. it seemed like the whole canyon was out to get her or maybe it was...

@@The Pixelated Pony,

Saddlefield immediately tensed up when Lead mentioned he was police.

"Uh, s-sure thing officer, come in, just uh, gimme a second," he stammered before closing the door.

Lead waited outside for a minute or two, when suddenly, a loud bang came from the other side of the door that knocked him back. He could feel a sharp pain in his side as he fell, and realized that Saddlefield had shot him through the door.

Within only a few minutes, an ambulance was on the scene recovering Lead. On its way to the hospital, the ambulance blared past Lead's house.

One of the paramedics was about to yell at Golden to get out, but Lead was able to weakly put up his hoof to stop him.

"Golden," he coughed, managing a weak smile. "I got your ink ribbons."

He took out a small box with a slight red stain on the corner and gave it to her.

Golden felt faint. Was Lead dying? what would happen to her? Golden gave in to her emotions and became a crying mess in the corner of the ambulance "Please... Lead... Don't... Not now... Not yet" she said whilst burying her head in her legs the tears soaking into her coat

"I'm not going out just yet, kiddo, promise," said Lead.

He couldn't bear the thought of leaving Golden by herself again. Whether he did it with luck or sheer force of will, Lead had to pull through.

The ambulance pulled into the hospital and Lead was rushed out on a stretcher.

"Ma'm, we're taking him to surgery, so I'm going to need you to go the hospital lobby," said one of the paramedics to Golden.

Golden didn't want to leave Lead but didn't want to get into more trouble. She nodded silently and sat in the lobby waiting for any information. A stallion the same age as Golden sat next to her and tipped his hat to her she waved back sheepishly before going back to waiting.

After about an hour, a doctor walked into the lobby and approached Golden, "We've done what we can, and it's looking optimistic. Your father suffered some damage to his kidney, but we were able to pull him through. He's recovering at the moment, and you can see him now."

(F...FATHER!?) Golden thought (How old do I look!?). Golden nodded glad that Lead was okayish. "Thank-you." She said before running off to where Lead's room was. she arrived and knocked on the door "hello? could I come in?" she said nervously poking her head around the door

"Golden?" called Lead.

He was lying on a bed in a room that was empty except for himself. Lead was in a hospital gown with an IV in his arm along with various other medical equipment surrounding him. He was breathing weakly but steadily, and seemed to be alright at first glance.

"I told you I wasn't going out just yet. The doctor said the bullet grazed my kidney, and I'd probably be dead if it hit me a few inches closer. Don't worry, kiddo I'm probably going to make it. I'm probably going to be stuck in here for a while though. I may not be dead, but I'm not in top shape either."

Golden could have run out the room and kissed that doctor but she didn't because that would've been weird. Instead she hugged Lead "oh thank Celestia your not dying I don't know what I'd do without you Lead. I'd be lost. and I promise I'll visit every day... although I don't have much else to do... so I would anyway!"

Lead was glad that he was important enough to Golden for her to promise to visit him every day.

That Doctor out there just said that you were my dad.you wouldn't have anything to do with that would you?"
