Ponies are alien hosts

I know anyone who sees the title is going to come in and post that I've lost it, telling me to lay off the cider, but just hear me out.

It all started with a topic on a completely seperate pony forum, and there, I posed a simple question- what does the universe of space beyond the pony planet contain? What possibilities are out there besides the Nyx of the moon (see comics), and the Horsehead Nebula (see "It's about Time")?

While putting together a backstory for a certain beloved toyline pony, https://mlpforums.com/topic/150854-life-of-a-tiny-toy-pony/it ocurred to me that pony magic may very likely have its origins in the cosmos, which- sad to say, is dreadfully unexplored. I recalled that in the JofTS, Sunbutt's entry seemed to imply that her magic CAME from the sun. By extension, Luna's magic CAME from the moon, and since Starswirl knew how to move the stars...well...you get ge idea.

Furthermore, by RAISING their respective celestial bodies, an alicorn's magic was constantly being restored. Because it'd make sense if the source of magic was FROM those celestial luminaries (or the aliens, like the Nyx of the moon, who inhabit them, and bestow their abilities to the ponies, like NMM had to LEARN dreamseeing and dreamwalking from the aliens)

In addition, in "the return of Chrysalis" comic, thefe's a comet called the "Secretariat Comet" which greatly enhances ALL magic on the planet, from unicorns to changelings, which seems like further evidence that magic is actually alien to not just pony, but all life on earth, and that it had to have come from space, namely aliens. Their power is just being used by the ponies, much like alien hosts.

Perhaps the answers lies in this "Horsehead Nebula" that Twilight mentioned and was keeping watch on in "It's about time", and where the comet is said to be from, in the comics as well.....

Relevant meme is relevant.

Also, Lyra has her own theory she'd like to share on the subject.

On a more serious note, it could very well be an alien-given power. That's the beauty of fiction from the fantasy genre, we really don't know. Magic is just the everyday norm in Equestria, they don't seem to give it's origins much of a thought.

The equines do indeed have celestial naming conventions. We've got the Royal Princesses, Starswirl, Sunburst, Starlight, Twilight, and Moondancer. This may just be a conscience or an reference to the origin of extraterrestrial magic in Equestrian astrology as we really don't truly know the origin of magic. My theory is that the Elements or Harmony are an celestial entity that came to earth through a crashing meteorite, and initially brought magic upon the equines.

I believe this was actually the cause of Nanomachines. If Metal Gear Solid taught us anything, is that anything that can't be explained, is always the cause of Nanomachines. :P

But fun aside, i don't know. That's the wonderful thing, when it comes to fantasy. We can make millions of wild theories, because some people don't want to accept that magic is just magic.

I second this. I totally believe the ponies are technologically advanced posthumans.

As for the magic itself, I tentatively blame the Q Continuum.

just because the ponies don't doesn't mean that we can't. One thingg I forget to point out in the op is that ponies -even alicorns have no power over nature, as seen with the Everfree, and the season 6 premier. So the aliens could've granted them their magic, because space objects have been influencing nature and seasons before intelligent earth creation

but it CAN be explined. And I'm not saying magic isn't magic. I'm speculating on its origins. And it makes perfect sense that it came from aliens.

Why else do pony rulers literally celebrate the celestial bodies? (Summer Sun ceebration, and even g1 ponies had Sun Tuesday). Why does the tree of harmony have celestial markngs on its trunk, if like a normal tree, it doesn't absorb the energy/magic that is in the celestia bodies? (The same one that rejuvinates Sunbutt's magic, and the moon, which rejuvinates Luna's). Why do ponies name their foals names of celestial bodies, if not in honor of the aliens who obviously granted them their magic? Why is any significant amount of time named after them, no doubt also in honor (moons)? It can't be merely coincidence that all this adds up and points to magical, celestial origins.
