Her backstory is pretty much a fic in itself, so I thought I'd post it here.

Likes: cupcakes, cake rolls, strawberry shortcake, cool weather, the smell of rain (especially on cold days), "star surfing" (a hybrid of skysurfing and windsurfing atop a board attached to a solar-powered rocket), experimenting with science and magic

 

Personality: calm, mature, studious. Tries to keep an appearance of being raised in Canterlot elite. (Well-groomed, head high, proper speech, always clothed). Curious, experimental

 

skills: reading and predicting others, making alchemized magic (using infusing dark energy with mana) "Astraion"

About: Star Dreams is the youngest of 4 children. She has 2 brothers who are adopted, and 1 sister, who is biological. The eldest brother works as a bartender in Manehattan. The second eldest brother works in the most renound mafia in Neighppon. He's a reputable and dangerous stallion with an outstanding bounty on his head. The third eldest of the siblings is a mare who was once Prncess Celestia's own hoof-picked, former student, Sunset Shimmer. Star Dreams was but an infant when her sister abandoned her studies and her mentor, and made her way to an alternative dimension. The sister Star knows is only the one seen in family photos, but she has made it her mission in life to hunt down the missing mare, in attempt at having some semblance of family in her life.

Star Dreams was born in Canterlot, and grew up with both parents. Her mother, Scentimental, was a florist who specialized in breeding and growing beautiful, striped roses. Her father was an orchestra conductor, kind and caring to his mate and children. However, when his wife died, he attempted to harness the dark magic of a flower that Scentimental had been studying (Dactylanthus taylorii/ Flower of Hades), in attempt to bring her back from the grave. The parasitic magic fed off of his despair and grief, warping his vision of his love to that of horrible and madening nightmares, and instead, creating a Black Grim, in which Scentimental's spirit was bonded to. After his unexpected and dangerous mistake, he fled Equestria, fearing sentence by Princess Celestia. He hasn't been heard from or seen since that day.

Star Dreams was taken into custody of her Aunt and Uncle, who had difficulty trying to raise her, as they were without children of their own. To make things even more challenging, her out of control bursts of baby magic had one day turned her Uncle into a brown bear, and her Aunt into a hamster. In spite of the setbacks, and their new bodies, the couple persevered and managed to raise their step-daughter into a studious, sweet young filly who excelled in the subjects of her classes. But they remain cautious of the Black Grim who is fiercely protective of Star Dreams, unaware of the origins of it.

As she entered her first years of fillyhood, Star proved to be a curious child, always asking questions, and eager to learn. She picked up the basics of magic easily, through her foalsitter, Starbeam Twinkle, and self teaching out of books. Shortly after mastering the basics, she adapted to more advanced magic. It was then that her step-parents decided to approach the subject of the filly's inquiries for many years; Sunset Shimmer. While the family hadn't been informed to her wherabouts by Princess Celestia, they made known to Star that she had been looking into dangerous dark magic, and had been missing for a long time. Star Dreams understood the situation, and decided to move out of Canterlot, and into the Ponyville Observatory, so as not to bring harm to her Aunt and Uncle, as she continued to advance in magic, and solve the mystery of the wherabouts of her missing sister.

Star developed a distrust toward Celestia, who had been the last pony in contact with this sibling that Star had never known. Whenever and wherever possible, she goes out of her way to avoid being in her presence.

Upon moving, Star Dreams, through her family's insistence, was assigned a local foalsitter, Holly Dash, to check in on her as needed. Her premature transition into a life of semi-independence allowed her to mature at a quicker pace than most foals, and provided her space to pursue her missing pony investigations freely, along with further developing and studying magic without interference or harm to others. Due to her choice of location, however, she grew to become jaded.

With Ponyville serving as a hotspot for chaotic, magical misfortunes and monster attacks, Star Dreams frequently calls into question the mentality and capabilities of the majority of Ponyville's adult populace, not excluding many of the chosen element of harmony representatives.

This attitude first led her into studying the stars, under the assumption that the most powerful unicorn whose very cutie mark were that of 6 stars, and having such power origiate from them (much like Princess Celestia and Luna), shortly after an Ursa Minor had been brought into Ponyville. Working with who she believed go be a more competent and sensible adult, Dr. Whooves, her research led to her discovering a foreign magic, "Mana", that was a mysterious substance that had been known as "dark energy". Interest was lost, however, when the discovery failed to connect back to Twilight Sparkle's magical abilities.

Star Dreams then decided to bite the bullet and try to befriend the slightly more sane adults who were closest to the powerful student of the sun Princess, to know more on her abilities, her friends, namely Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Apple Jack. It wasn't before long that through them, Star learned of the elements of harmony, picked up on studying them, and traced their origins to the tree in the Everfree forest. The celestial cutie marks on its trunk, those of ponies who she knew, intrigued her, and once more, she took up study of astronomy, driven by a theory that the tree was able to absorb the unnamed restorative magic within distant luminaries, like the stars, foreign to ponykind, and convert it into sugar, or it's "Rainbow" magic as energy within the Equestrian atmosphere. While studying the tree and its potential connections to the ancient magic of the cosmos, an accidental overdose of dark matter Mana to a fragment of a "Stellarite" stone found within a meteorite originating from the Secretariat Comet (which was known to greatly amplify Equestrian magic) created a new magic, "Astraion", which animated the Stellarite, causing it to become a projectile that was absorbed by the Dark Grim, and giving life to a shared spirit, who called himself Kerbeus of Sirius.

Kerbeus informed Star Dreams of the nature of Genesis' (which was what it called the tree), its sentience, and its purpose of "Equestrian" magic through their bestowed "cutie marks", which played a role in her decision not to pursue aquiring her own mark. No longer furthering her interest in magic, she returned to connecting the dots in bringing her sister, Sunset Shimmer home, hoping that she has what it takes to correct what has been established by the tree of harmony.

 

Miscellaneous details: her love and fascination for Ursa Minor, after one was brought into Ponyville.

When she's really excited, se uncontrollably creates bursts of magic that create small showers of stars around her.

Due to prolonged exposure of "Astraion" magic, through the Stellarite barettes from the Secretariat Comet in her hair, the color of her hair has changed, and small sections contain galactic nurseries.
