I don't think just having gay characters in the show is preachy. It's just aknowledging another sexuality exisits. What would be preachy is if they made this whole idea into an episode ending with a some soap box speech like this is an episode of Family Guy or South Park. Personally, I'm not a fan of shows that unsubtly side with one end of the political spectrum because they end up making too many episodes involving the political views of the writers, which lets face it if MLP delved into that the show would be a whole lot more controversial.

People, who, after five years of watching a show about tolerance, acceptance and inclusion, can't handle the idea of havingg non-straight horses in their cartoon?

Call me cold-hearted, but I wouldn't exactly cry after these people.

 

 

Not gonna go into detail on this one, since politics is a can that reALLY doesn't need opening here (PM me if you want), but the show is clearly, if not explicitly, leaning towards the left, or what American's consider left anyway.

What about this show is left? Having six female leads, an arguably-dark-skinned male lead (I read somewhere that IRL horses with darker coats have darker skin. This may be BS so disregard it if it's false), a female in power pretty much everywhere the female heroes go, every male being weaker than or subservient to a female, Spike having a crush on someone way out of his league and this person stringing him along for lulz and to avoid "Breaking his heart" and feeling bad for doing it even though he'd get over her in a few weeks and find a new lover that can actually love him like a person and not as a cute puppy, Spike being born into a job he's not paid to have, Rainbow Dash having to say she won't take it easy on Big Mac even though he's "Just a stallion", and the only male-do- crap, I almost said male-dominated without even noticing. I'm infected, and must meditate later. Anyway, as I was saying... The only country we ever see with a non-female ruler is the Yak Country, a place full of strong curly-haired easily-offended white baby men, the moral of the episode featuring them being "Be yourself, because you'll never please baby men".

 

...Bugger.

 

I'd planned on saying something like "How is this show left? The protagonist didn't give up her house and give it away to an immigrant allowed in for free, leaving her own kids homeless" or "This show isn't left, it hasn't done any of the dumb stuff Glee tries to do" or something, but...

 

Crap. This show is Left, isn't it?

 

...Meh, who cares? It's a well-written and entertaining show, it's better than Steven Universe, and it's not like it preaches that being left is the only way to be. If it did, then that'd suck. Also, we should discard the dumb left VS right labels that only serve to personalize what should be rational and intellectual debates.

I think the main concern isn't having a gay couple in the show, we already have that.

 

It's that the writer who proposed it explicitly stated he "wouldn't mind" Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy being a couple.

 

I'm not againt LGBT rights, but I am against ruining my favorite show with unnecessary relationships. RD and Flutters have always been friends. They've never been lovey. It would ruin the ascetic of the show.

This is like the introduction of Alicorn Twilight all over again. I don't think it would happen nor it wouldn't be much of an issue just because Jeremy Whitley started all of this. True, it would be unexpected but as long as this sort of topic is handled nice and smoothly, everything would be fine. We've seen this sort of stuff before in previous episodes and even in Rainbow Rocks.

Okay, I want to ask a serious question: How in the HELL would having LGBT characters in this show be 'preachy'? Seriously, I really would love to know the reasoning behind this. Why is it that it is perfectly acceptable to show love between two non-LGBT ponies, like Shining and Cadence, but the moment that LGBT comes up, that is automatically view as 'inappropriate and preachy'.

 

There is absolutely no real logic to any argument like that, in the end it is actually a tad hypocritical. Love is love, and showing that between two same gendered characters is PERFECTLY FINE. 

The reason it is hard to accept is because LGBT is not a natural thing.  Everything living besides plants are created to mate with their opposite genders so they are given attraction to that opposite gender to help with that.  God didn't create humans so love the same gender so having people going against the way of life is found to be quite wrong. I am straight and also don't dislike homosexuals but I am glad that this show avoids putting them in.

Most everything of our creation is unnatural. Unnatural doesn't equal wrong.

 

Humans, unlike most animals, are capable of reasoning and intelligent thought. We are smart enough to recognize desirable traits besides that which makes an ideal reproductive partner, even in opposite genders. Some people simply find that attraction solely in the same gender.

You guys are forgetting that this isn't a TV14 show on cable.  This is a TVY kids cartoon.  In episode 100 (the wedding) they implied Octavia & Vinyl + Lyra & Bon Bon (both popular fan ships).  For TVY this is about as far as they can go.  I wouldn't mind a gay character (Smithers on Simpsons + 2 on Family Guy), I just don't think it is a realistic expectation.

God made man in his image. So if man happens to be gay, God must be somewhat gay himself. I'm also pretty sure the bible says something about not judging people but to let God judge them himself.

 

Also saying you don't dislike homosexuals after saying such terrible things like you just said is like the same of saying "I'm not racist, I have a black friend!" after telling a horrible racist joke.

I don't think they should raise the stakes at all. Its a childrens show, but I completely agree that it doesn't need any LGBT in the show whatsoever. That isn't why any of us came to watch the show to begin with. I personally enjoy the show because its a cute and funny cartoon without having sex/relationships involved in any way, unlike any other cartoon made basically.
