Guardians of Harmony.

I'm excited, personally.

I like the slice of life stuff of course: the gift of maud pie was fantastic IMO. But from the start of FIM I really liked the magical girls aspect of the show and I enjoyed the more action heavy stuff, like the Comics and episodes like power ponies.

I think FIM is a very rich series that can go EITHER WAY. Heavy Slice of life, or heavy magical girl type series. Both are equally as valid IMO. I mean, its not even like you can't have magical girls have "normal" lives in contrast to their super hero magical girl antics: look at the girls of sailor moon and their normal aspirations compared to their sailor stuff.

The only real problem I have with GOH is that its honestly going to be near impossible to have the other five be relevant with twilight in an action heavy series: twilight, From season 3 onward, has just utterly dwarfed the other 5 in what she can do. This isn't just a "Became an alicorn" thing, but a tonal shift in how powerful and reliable she is at magic. If you look at S1, she CONSTANTLY flubbed her spells, like in winter wrap up with the plow going out of control, or her various attempts to solve things via magic (like her "fix all" spell in return of harmony) just never worked and she was unreliable. Now, she's depicted as being almost perfectly in control of her magic AND is an alicorn on top of that.

The comics give a good indicator of why this is bad: Action plotlines have a heavy tendency to come down to twilight a the Golden snitch in scenarios, such as Issue 4, the cattle rustlers, or dealing with Chrysalis in later arcs.

So I'm HEAVILY stoked for this, as I really want to see more magical girl stuff (I loved the elements of harmony, I Loved episodes like power ponies and do princesses dream of magical sheep, ect.), but I'm also heavily dreading it, as I have a feeling I know where this is going to go, based on how action stuff tends to go in the show (Friendship games with the others as power batteries for example, or just twilight being the only one that matters like in the comics)

Just gonna copy and paste what I said in another thread

- From what I've seen from Guardians of Harmony, I feel like it'd just be FiM trying way too hard to be dark and serious and edgy. I mean, if they can give a good balance of action and goofiness like Transformers Animated or Megas XLR then sure, otherwise, I'd rather not

I don't really know how to feel about a GOH series. While it is true that a lot of the two partners are some of my all time favorite episodes, I also enjoy the slice of life aspect of FIM. It could end up being really interesting, but at the same time it would be an action focused MLP cartoon and I am unsure about what the end quality would be like. With shows like ATLA, Korra and even Steven Universe I absolutely adore the world building and action adventure focus that they have. I don't really know if MLP would be the best franchise to try to tackle something like that. But if GOH prevents a season 7 from happening, than I will be happy.

I'm excited at the possibilities for it, I'd love to see an animated series, or some movies. I do think MLP could actually make a pretty decent action/adventure style show, if done right.

That said, I am curious how it would be handled. Would it be in the same continuity as FIM/EQG? Different one? Would it run at the same time, or would FIM end and have GOH as a "Sequel" Series? Only time will tell, I suppose.

Only thing I have to say is, if they do end FIM to start up this new series, I do hope they keep some of the Slice of life in there. Even if it's just a few episodes every season, showing that our heroines are still ponies with day to day lives outside of whatever Actiony stuff they do would be nice.

Twilight is best pony.

Why hello MLPForums! What have ya been up to?

I'm sure it will have some continuity with FIM.

And quite honestly I would love to see traditional animation like Steven Universe or Star vs. (Toonboom).
