Hey everypony! This is my first post on here, and I want to contribute, I've been saving up for a while to get a *toy* and I was thinking about either a midi keyboard or graphics tablet.

I recently became a brony not too long ago and I love the show obviously that is why I am here. After seeing everything the community produces it has inspired me to want to... do something. I've became heavily interested in music creating and interested in doing artwork too. Which is odd because I never considered myself very artistic and lately I just want to create!

I'm a linux fanboy too I should mention, but I'm not the crazy kind so don't run away! I have been tinkering with LMMS (Linux Multi Media Studio), I've realized that learning piano would become necessary, or at the very least I want to learn, and using a computer keyboard to do that is possible but isn't the right way I'd like to learn. I think I can get by without a MIDI keyboard for now.

So after going to newegg I've found the Wacom Capture Bamboo tablet seems to be perfect for doing artwork (for a beginner), and can be used on Linux (Ubuntu) with a little work and I think I'm going to go for it.

Any thoughts or anything I should know before I make my purchase?

Also one last thing.. I've been looking for a brony name but I can't think of anything :|

Thanks in advance.

I use a Wacom Capture Bamboo and it's been very friendly to me especially sense starting off. It's very easy to use and works with pretty much any program you have. I would highly recommend it and could give you some help learning how to use it if you decide you want to get it. ;)

When getting a tablet keep in mind that your going to have to completely readjust the way you draw since you'll be looking at the screen vs looking at your hands. It is necessary, however, if you want to get into graphics design on the computer.

Good luck with your choice.

I was really worried about this when getting my tablet, it ended up being way more easy and adaptable then I had thought and I was able to make a few drawings even on the first day of me having it. :P

Hey! I didn't expect replies so fast.

@€ℨƴηℯłℓ that is awesome to know, from the reviews I've seen I think its perfect for what I want.

@Bohtty ahh yes! Good thing I haven't drawn anything on paper in a while LOL, I can do basic editing in gimp and such with a mouse. It will probably take some time to get used to but if it will help draw ponies and such I think it will be fun to create with!

It was probably worse for me because I had come from a HUGE traditional art background and then switched to digital. I still tend to do most my art with a mouse since I use vector and i find I have more control with a mouse.

If your looking to do pony art in the show's style then you'll want to get a good vector program like Adobe Illustrator or InkScape... or Flash since that's what they use to make the show, but that might be over kill for just static art. Of course any other style of pony art is generally better off done with a tablet. My first tablet was an older version of the capture, but now I have an Intuos Large and they area bunch of fun.

You have to develop a small art foundation, but here's some of the stuff I was able to complete with mine within the months of me just receiving it, and even though it's not amazing, I'm just learning the basics of photo editing programs also.

I don't do enough art anymore, but I should. The most I did was an unfinished portrait the first week after getting adjusted to how it works. Thankfully I had already known how to use Photoshop and most other programs... I haven't actually tried to "draw" any MLP art... I should :

this is the unfinished portrait I was talking about. Only because you linked your work. Its like 10% of the original size

@Bohtty

I've used a few pony vectors to make simple wallpapers or clip art before, I'm a little familiar with how to make vectors. I may eventually get Flash or something but I want to do easier things first. Here is an example of something I've done here. It was really simple, and I had fun making it!

Holy crap, haha! I watched some of your videos the other day! Which is kind of why I am here! Wow, what a small world. No seriously though, watching your videos specificaly made me want to take this route and heavily weighed my decision. I was actually thinking about using the program you used in those videos because it looked so amazingly easy to use.

Oh that is pretty good, even if it is unfinished I am terrible at drawing faces and that is better than what I could do.

That's because I had had like eight years of previous training in painting and drawing, it was just a new medium. Its all about the practices @.@, but thanks :)

Wow, you're the first person to actually recognize me from YouTube here on the Forums! Yes, Paint tool SAI is very easy to learn and use (It has a sensitivity feature which helps so much with line smoothing) and it's also free, although I do believe after a certain amount of time it may start begging you to donate which will go away if you do. Even with such a basic program, there's still allot in which I haven't yet done with it. In fact, this was made in Paint Tool SAI by one of our members who used to be really active. Doing my speedpaint videos is not only just for me to keep getting better at it, but hopefully expand into Photoshop and Illustrator as well, but that may not be for a while. And as an additional note, practicing on the tablet has made me much better at drawing ponies then I could have ever been in real life. Just as a note, here's some sketches I've done over the past few days which I would have never had the skills to draw if not for practicing on the tablet. I also have some tutorials on how to start out drawing ponies (or at least showing how I started out) on my channel if you become interested in those.

By the way, instead of trying to notify somebody by going @______, quoting them makes it so they actually see when you do it ;)

Well it shows :)

Oh wow, thats cool about being first to recognize you, I literally stumbled on your videos yesterday, I think I watched probably 70%? of your videos. Yeah I definitely will look into the tablet when I have enough (soon!) and that Paint SAI too.

I like your Trixie drawing, it really fits in with the style of the show and that is what I'd like to do or something similar to anyway. And nice job on the sketches too. I'm not much for working on paper but who knows.

Nice tip! hehehe

What, oh no, that's not mine :P I would like to think I could pull of something close to it though. It was done by Zonra, a member who used to be really active here. I haven't seen him/ her around allot lately though.
