ManaMinori 4,149 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 (edited) Sometimes, it does seem that way. Derpy isn't allowed to have derp eye and her boyish voice, Twist isn't allowed to have a lisp, Sunbutt and Luna aren't allowed to be absolutely incompetent, Scootaloo isn't allowed to be a pegasus who can't fly. A flaw or setback shouldn't stop the pony (or person) from find a workaround solution, or being awesome, in spite of their flaws. In the case of Scootaloo, for example- I'd be more thrilled to see her be different, using her flaw of being the unable to truly fly, set records on land. The moral that Applejack recently had to learn in the Manehattan episode was to stop focusing on all that she can't do, and work at what she can, even if in the end, what comes out of her hard work is a smaller scale reward. I think that that's also something the brony community should try to remember, when is comes to Scootaloo and her ability, or lack thereof, to fly. I would like it if Scootaloo remembers RD's pep talk, in Flight to the Finish. I'd like if RD showed Scoots that she doesn't have to be able to fly, like she can, to be able to soar. Maybe encourage Scoots to enter a "PegaX games" prefecture competition, and try to get to nationals doing stuff on her scooter, like a little Tony Hawk, and help her train for it. That could be a thing. I mean, we've seen her jump ramps and stuff, on a small scale, when she rides through Ponyville. Never really had a full episode showcasing her scooter abilities, and using them to her advantage, instead of her focus on flying. Hoping to see Scoots being as awesome on her scooter as Big Hero 6's Gogo Tamago is on her anti-gravity wheels. (Better yet, having RD trick out her scooter with anti-gravity wheels using pegasi magic) Just all kinds of epic! Hazy Skies 1,010 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 It's always good to have flaws in any character.. But so many people can be judgmental about certain flaws a character has.. I myself like characters that have their flaws.. It helps to build them as individuals and allows you to notice some character's development too.. With Derpy I liked her original voice, and many Bronies agree.. But then there were those who didn't and shouted the loudest, demanding to change it.. And as we know with most things.. the ones who shout the loudest are often the ones who are heard..
Jeric 46,880 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 I don't see Derpy's eyes or Scootaloo's inability to fly as major flaws ... assuming you are talking about character flaws. Applejack's stubbornness, Rarity's dramatic tendency, Rainbow's ego, Twilight's judgment, are examples of flaws that the show highlights and gives each an opportunity to evolve and grow. What you mentioned specifically, are distinguishing traits (minor flaws) that tend to make a character more memorable and stand out. I honestly haven't seen many people point out that they don't want Derpy to have normal eyes. Those that want Scootaloo to fly are likely motivated my the characters own dream to fly, and not specifically made as a denouncement at a decision to have a character disabled. Huge difference! Stardust* 3,302 May 24, 2016 Share May 24, 2016 That's the type of world we live in. Everything and everyone (everypony) needs to be perfect. Do what they are "supposed" to do. There isn't room for flaws or errors. But the reality is... it's not possible. As humans in this never ending hateful world for those who are different, the same thing transfers over to the show. People expect for them to be perfect. They don't want to have to look at a fat pony, or a pony with a lazy eye. They don't want to have to deal with a pegasus who can't fly. They try to avoid the situation all together. Just like people today ignore those who are different, and treat them cruelly. It transfers over to the pony world, Scootaloo desperately wants to fly and be like her idol. Derpy wants to fit in, Fluttershy wants to be just a tad bit more brave. Rarity wants to be the best designer at all cost and it is because of the unrealistic ponies in the magazines. But we also learn that through their flaws they become stronger. Scootaloo can scooter like no bodies business. Derpy is the most kind pony I've seen. Fluttershy has grown in many ways. From the first time she confronted the seeping dragon in Dragonshy to going out on Nightmare Night. She is pushing the boundaries on her "flaws". Rarity can create something completely out of style and make it be the most beautiful thing anyone has ever seen. She looks past those who criticize her and blows the pants off of them. gamecubeguy214 2,514 May 28, 2016 Share May 28, 2016 Why does this even happen? There's an actual rare condition in this world that gives you a derp eye. In real life, people wouldn't be offended by it, but when it's put in an animated show, parents from all across the world are complaining. I mean seriously, they won't tolerate a disabled character? What the f*** kind of bulls*** is that? Next generation, if Hasbro happens to make a character that parents are offended by, they just shouldn't care. Those parents don't deserve to have children if they're going to be offended and not allow the most OK of things in a show. Phanact 333 May 28, 2016 Share May 28, 2016 I think all of the characters are flawed in some way. Rarity tends to focus on herself, Twilight can get a bit boring and nerdy, Applejack is always worried with helping everypony so she never says no, fluttershy isn't assertive, pinkie pie wants to make everyone happy which is also impossible, and rainbow dash is really self centered. I'd go on but you get my point.
