What will happen to this forum when G4 is old news?

But when it does happen, how much work do you think the mods here will have cut out for them, to move all the g4 topics to the "Past Generations" forum, to make room for g5?

Well, the thing to remember is that the main point of the forum was Friendship is Magic; i.e. G4. Even if and when we do get G5 I doubt that will ever supplant the G4 theme of this community; unless it turns out to be the roaring success that G4 has turned out to be.

 

That said I can see G5 getting it's own section.

I think MLP could get a really nice revamp especially with influence from FiM. I'm definitely not apprehensive to a G5 section. There's always room for new takes on predominant toy franchises, especially those with a younger female target audience. It wouldn't surprise me if G5 ended up dominating with popularity with preexisting MLP fans to be honest.

Gotta agree with 'em. This forum is centered around FIM, and FIM's still around, so G4 will carry majority of the discussion. When G5 comes out (likely in 2020), the G4 roots and themes won't go away. Merging G4 with the Past Generations subforum is a really bad idea, because the G4 topics outnumber the others 50,000-1. Instead, a G5 section might suffice better, so you don't clutter everything.

Not immune, per se, but it doesn't make sense unless the topics can be organized. Again, all the FIM/brony topics greatly outnumber the topics from Past Generations; merging it together will create a major mess to that subforum.

Whatever happens, I'm ready for it. However, at worst I see FiM related stuff being its own section, distinct from both past gen and more recent stuff. We could have a general board of just FiM/G4 discussion, but in all likelihood all the current boards will still be here, and FiM will simply be its own category, which it already is anyways. I'm not sure if the site admins would want to go too far out of their way to make things overly difficult. As a member of the forum staff, I'll definitely advocate for the simplest and most convenient option, which will probably involve the least amount of change anyways, which is a win-win for everyone. Also, I took the liberty of editing the thread title for topic clarity.

Probably go on for a bit, maybe lose some popularity. I think it'll last for a while. They might just make a new forum for the new generation, and there'll probably be a new G5 section here too. Or maybe this site will become...G5 oriented? I'd hope not, unless G5 is in the same universe as G4...
