Lil Pip 775 September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 http://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/PlayerBasicRulesV03.pdf I don't think it has enough variety of deities, spells, races, and classes to my liking. What would you guys want to see added to it if they decided to make it more diverse?
ashi 261 September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 Actually, limiting the options is usually better. Too many, and you spend hours umm-ing and ahh-ing over what to do.
child of the night 271 September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 (edited) @@Lil Pip, The problem with adding more items like you are saying is that they have to balance them around pre-existing items. If they were to add a new race that had some special power then it may be favored too highly. This can also be attributed to the other parts such as spells where one can be created with too low of a casting cost or too powerful of an attack and be overused. There is also the half of the process where they have to make something new and unique or else it will just get tedious and boring. This means that while even they may want more of the items you request they may not be able to create them due to some arbitrary reason. (hope that's a reasonable explanation) p.s. I love your profile image, it's so cute Edited September 9, 2016 by child of the night

True but how I approached it is I came in with certain expectations, reasonable ones, then I finally check it out and what I wanted to try was impossible. I think with more diversity you can decide what to do, then just check what applies and recognize it immediately. Like there should be weirder deities that fit more personalities, all of them seem like variances on similar deities. Like every single life deity is good, but there should be an evil life deity that is the deity of parasites and in addition to life is trickery. If their hosts die they cannot survive, thus its pro-life, and evil. All the gods seem basically cookie-cutter currently imo. child of the night, on 09 Sept 2016 - 2:50 PM, said: @@Lil Pip, The problem with adding more items like you are saying is that they have to balance them around pre-existing items. I love your profile image, it's so cute Thanks, and yes good point. But I don't think balancing races would be very difficult, just some personalities, some bonuses similar to other races, I don't think it'd be that difficult. Spells on the other hand I think are too straight forward and specific. I mean specifics are good, but it limits creativity. Like, a dimension door spell, there should be an offense variant, so the enemies do not have to be willing and it can be dimensional trapdoor spell for instance. If it is too good(like putting them into lava, which wouldn't work on all enemies btw) we simply give it a longer time to cast or something, or it requires sacrificing items of particular importance or etc. I guess creativity could cause spells to be broken, in which case it should be assumed they are very good so already have a higher cost so you use them just when you must and not all the time, and its possible to not be able to cast it in some scenarios. Snow 7,058 September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 Is there a program for such? ughh... imagination and anything to write with... Dw the first one comes installed buy default on all models (some worse than others but still there) aaaannnyyy hoo, my friends and i play D&D over skype with the DM screen shearing a birds eye view of the map drawn horribly in MS paint (shows how many f###s we give) as for race variation we have some of the stupidest ideas that the DM allows XD like a mounted centaur and a pirate pirate really the only rule we have on characters is they cant fly.. which sucks but we cant be bothered to make it not OP just mould your campaign around how you want it to be ^-^ freaking re write the rules if you want to, that's beauty of D&D its so flexible. beans
Twilight Dirac 721 September 10, 2016 Share September 10, 2016 (edited) The options provided by DnD are fairly broad and diverse. Between your choice of ability scores, races, classes, subclasses, backgrounds, feats and spells there are a huge range of characters you can create. But if that just isn't enough for you, go back to either 3.5e or Pathfinder(which is just DnD 3rd Edition but produced by a third party), the latter which has a massive number of options online. Mutemutt 773 September 10, 2016 Share September 10, 2016 I forget what the basic rules you linked look like, but I remember that the dungeons master guide they give offers tips and guidelines for creating your own magic items, spells, enemies, etc. The general idea of their guides is that they're just guides for the game and you can tweak any piece of it as you see fit as long as the other players are willing to play along.
