Jobs for disabled people?

I've got a question for everyone, of a practical {though not personal} nature;

For someone with a partial disability - namely a lack of feeling in the lower body, so with greatly reduced mobility, lifting power and ability to stand - what sort of employment would they be able to pursue, other than purely administrative?

Also, just to avoid pigeonholing this topic too much, discuss the ways in which individuals with disabilities - be they physical, mental or emotional - are able to support themselves, or contribute to others around them as well. Personal experiences, anecdotal evidence, theories, opinions, etc.

There is a whole plethora of employments available to people disabled as you describe, aside from the administrative work that you mentioned already there is call centre work, law, IT jobs (excluding perhaps those manually dealing with hardware).  Pretty much any field that involves only sedentary work should be within reach.

You can do anything you put your mind to, I've seen lots of people with disabilities do things they were told they couldn't. When someone else says you cannot, it's usually because they've given up or not tried, you have to try for yourself truly understand your limits in this world. And remember you'll always have the support of all your brothers and sisters on the forum here if you ever so need it.

There's a lot of "At-home-jobs" that are legit, like customer service. A friend of mine worked at a company who sent them a free laptop and headset so they can do the job.

Granted, you can deal with frustrated people.

If you know how to or learn how to draw at some point, that already opens a lot of oportunities: you can be an illustrator, an animator, a designer, and a lot more.

You could also become a game developer and either make a really successful indie game or cheat a bunch of people out of their money using KickStarter, think of it as the real life equivalent of InFamous.

Most office jobs don`t really require a lot of physical work. Plus, you could become a lawyer if you`re willing to study enough, a teacher if you can handle the stress or a psychologist if you`re good at helping people.

If you`re good at math you could be an accountant, you could work with real estate if you`re a good salesperson and if you know how to sew you could be a tailor.

If you write well you can be a writer, if you know how to play an instrument you could become a musician and if your voice sounds good you can be a singer.

The possibilities are kind of endless, really, as long as you work and study hard. Knowing the right people won`t hurt either! I hope this repyl was helpful or at least made you feel motivated.

My mom's husband is disabled with CP, he has to use a wheelchair and he can't really move his hands properly.. He also has a hard time speaking normally. He works with sorting files in an office and he's great at it. At the computer, he can do wonders. They gave him a chance and he hasn't let them down. Anyone can do anything if they try.

I've also seen a disabled man at the reception at some places. They're doing a splendid job. And with the ability to conversate and talk properly, there's no problem what so ever to work with costumer service. That always works.

If you can use your hands properly too, there are PLENTY of more possibilities to work. Like the above user mentions, art in all forms, communication, writing, crafting, cleaning, dishwashing and basically.. Everything you can do with your hands. Which is... A LOT. People with no hands would have a harder time than people with no legs, etc. But even those wonderful people find ways to keep on living and fighting. It's very impressive.
