How time consuming is the Wonderbolts?

The Wonderbolts are based on the Blue Angels, which is the Navy's flight demonstration squadron, thus making the Wonderbolts something of a military career. That said, how much free time do they get? Rainbow Dash not only has her friends at home, she has a PET she has to take care of.

However time consuming the show needs them to be for the plot.

 

 But as a more serious answer, I imagine they can be rather time consuming. There's more than likely a lot of practice and preparation required for everything. However, Dash is a really fast flier, she can easily get from the academy back to Ponyville in a pretty short time, which is probably why she's still got time to hang out with her friends. Of course she also has to still get's some time off too.

 

 As for Tank, two things to keep in mind. One is that all animals in the MLP world seem to be more intelligent than the ones in our world. While pets still require care, I imagine they can take care of themselves a bit more than our own usually can. Also, if Dash is gone for long periods, she can easily take him to Fluttershy so she can care for him. She could even take him to Spike again, since she's unaware of what happened last time, and he'd probably be up for doing it again in exchange for a gem.

I guess it depends on how many calls they would have for her. Perhaps they might not have her on all flights? Maybe like a shift kinda thing. Her and another pony may have time slots that they take turns flying for. So she might not be gone all too much. I also agree with what Glimmer said about Tank. The almighty Fluttershy is there. Makes me want an episode with interactions between Tank and Flutters.

Since they have been shown taking part in military like operations, I'd have to wonder of Dash would have to leave for a lengthy tour of duty at some point.

Fluttershy would be more than willing to take care of Tank for a while if Rainbow Dash had to be away for Wonderbolt emergencies so he wil be well taken care of. Since Spitfire knows that Rainbow is a part of Twilight's court as part of her friendship entourage--that's what I'm calling it--she might only be called for the most extreme situations. Speaking of Spitfire, as the leader of the group, she probably has to spend almost every waking moment at the academy going over flight patterns, schedules, business matters, and so on to the point where it's become mundane. At least she loves what she does otherwise she'd have quit a long time ago.

It depends on however the writers want it to be in order to have Rainbow be in episodes.
