Is Spike a lot smarter than he lets on?

He plays O&O and although i've never played a D&D style RPG, i've heard that it takes quite a bit of brain power to fully understand.

Spike's never really been that dumb, even though episodes like "Spike at your service" might fool someone into thinking so. He's usually just a bit naive and immature, which makes sense since he's younger than the Mane Six. He's been Twilight's voice of reason on multiple occasions.

He couldn't spell brink in episode one. That's not exactly smart.

True, but I don't think Twilight would let someone really dumb be her assistant.

Please check out this awesome looking My Little Pony fan game being developed by Rikifive. Here's a link to It's post: https://mlpforums.com/topic/156773-my-little-pony-the-game/

He is smart, bad writers just force him to act dumb for plot.

And no, anyone can play DnD. It takes brainpower to play it well.

Some smart people don't care about appearing dumb if it cracks the others up, nor do some feel they always have to use their brain and think in pure logic. He can be goofy, immature and all, but has also shown himself capable of sound reasoning. Just look at Gauntlet of Fire. That's no simpleton I see in there. And as mentioned, he's been the voice of reason on several occasions. Heck, he's almost doing a better job at teaching Starlight than Twilight herself! In fact, he's the one who cheers Twilight up at the end of the premier, reminding her how Celestia had let her learn for herself instead of always being there to explain her everything.
