Is foalhood too early to get a cutie mark?

As everyone knows, interests tend to change between childhood and adulthood. What if a foal gets their cutie mark in one thing, only to completely lose interest in it as they grow up?

I don't think that'd happen. For ponies at least the Cutie Mark's seem to represent something fundamental they discover about themselves, a talent, purpose or passion that's incredibly important to their identity. Applejack's Cutie Mark for instance doesn't even represent a talent, as much as it represent that she feels her place in life is at home on her farm with her family.

The Cutie Mark's also seem to be a bit flexible. Rarity's diamonds were gained after discovering her talent for finding jewels with magic, but it can also symbolize her love for all things beautiful and creating things that are so, so even though "Finding Jewels" is her talent, she became a fashion designer.

Also, ponies can have talents outside of their marks of course, so if they find some other talent they love, they can do that too. :)

But Rarity still uses her talent in her fashion designing, as she goes on gem hunts with Spike to use the gems as accessories/accents in her designs.

True, but Fashion designing isn't necessarily her special talent, and not all of her designs include gems.

I mean... her cutie mark could represent both, gems and fashion designing. *shrugs*

There are a lot of countries where it is decided what you do at say age 8.  You take your test and you know if you are going to college, votech, etc.

Well, IRL Mozart learned to play the piano almost as soon as he could walk.  By the time he was 2 years old he was playing professionally.  By the time he was 4 he was so bored he was trying to compose his own stuff & before he was 5 he succeeded (The Michael Jackson of his era)

If humans got Cutie Marks he would have had one before he was 5, maybe before he was 2.  So, yes I think some foals could get some that early.
